Butterflies for Juniper 🦋

In a statement from the Blessing Family this Pride Month, they shared a message of love and a few requests for our community. One of them was to make origami butterflies and leave them in both ordinary and unexpected places, just as Juniper did.

Stop by a butterfly folding station at Pride in the Park this Saturday and make one of your own. Take it with you. Leave it somewhere it’ll be found.

Live fully, as exactly who you are. Stay kind. Stay joyful.

That’s what we’re here to do.

As we begin Pride Month the Blessing Family would like to thank, from the bottom of our hearts, all those in the LGTBQIA2S+ community who have taken us into their hearts and embraced us in the days and weeks since our Juniper’s death.

Shortly before her death, Juniper sent her older brother the first photo we had ever seen of her in a dress and told him how happy it made her. We are comforted to know that near the time of her passing Juniper was as happy as we had ever known her to be, and closer than ever to discovering a way in which she could live her life as she truly was.

This month, and always, there are actions you can take to honor Juniper’s memory:
-Make origami butterflies and leave them in both ordinary and unexpected places. Juniper would often do this and would sometimes show us with joy the places where the butterflies were hidden, yet to be discovered.
-Post the image of the beautiful drawing of Juniper (above), left by an anonymous artist at the memorial to her on Red Square at the University of Washington.
-Occasionally practice “guerilla singing” Juniper loved to belt out a few lines of a song in crowds and then pretend to have no idea where it came from. What fun!
-Live your life with joy, with all the artistic ability you have, and most importantly live it as fully as you can as exactly who you are, just as Juniper did.

Always stay kind, loving, and joyful. Be tolerant and accepting of others, and when you can engage and learn about other people. Your interest can be a positive force in this world.

Thank you, once again, for the embrace in which you have held Juniper and our family these last few weeks; we remain forever grateful.

We love you,
The Blessing Family

Today is Give OUT Day the only national day of giving for LGBTQIA2S+ nonprofits in the country. And we’re asking you to Rally with us.

If you’ve ever danced in Volunteer Park, marched down 4th Ave, found your people at one of our events, or just felt something standing in the middle of a crowd of people who get it, this is how you help keep that going.

Your gift supports Seattle Pride in the Park this Saturday, the Seattle Pride Parade on June 28, our Youth Programming, Pride Speaks, and the Seattle Pride Impact Fund, which has granted over $550,000 to LGBTQIA2S+ grassroots organizations across Washington state.

We know a lot of organizations are asking for your support this Pride Month, and every single one of them is doing real work for this community. Give where your heart takes you. And if that’s here, we’re so grateful.

Give OUT at: SeattlePride.org

Giving is open through June 30.
