From our article, We Need a Plant-Based Food System to Feed the World: https://awellfedworld.org/issues/hunger/feed-the-world/

Farmed animals take drastically more food from the global food supply than they provide; according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), livestock consume five times more food than the entire human population.

A plant-based food system, on the other hand, could feed billions more people while reducing global farmland use by up to 75%, and emissions from the food system by up to 70%.

Writing in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Dr. Joan Sabaté and Dr. Samuel Soret note:

“Shifting diets from animal-based to plant-based at the global level is of paramount importance in achieving food security and sustainability goals. Decreasing consumption of meat and other animal products will free up large amounts of food that could be consumed directly by humans—for example, soy and grains."

They conclude:

“For millennia, meatless diets have been advocated on the basis of values, and large segments of the world population have thrived on plant-based diets…Policies in favor of the global adoption of plant-based diets will simultaneously optimize the food supply, health, environmental, and social justice outcomes for the world’s population. Implementing such nutrition policy is perhaps one of the most rational and moral paths for a sustainable future of the human race and other living creatures of the biosphere that we share.”

Environmental activist Paul Watson will not be extradited to Japan. The Ministry of Justice has decided that, defense lawyer Julie Stage tells Ritzau news. According to Julie Stage, Watson will now be released from prison in Greenland and can travel home to France. However, he must travel via Copenhagen or directly from Greenland to France. Watson was arrested at the port in Nuuk on 21 July and has since been held in custody in Nuuk.

Miljøaktivisten Paul Watson skal ikke udleveres til Japan, og han ventes nu løsladt fra anstalten i Nuuk, oplyser hans advokat.
