Taking on the Trail for Week 5!!

This week the staff at Beyond Malibu sent out five mountain trips, with groups traveling all the way from Texas and both Carolinas! These campers ranged from about halfway through high school to recent graduates; each of them finding something special to take back home and into this next season of life. Week 5 also had the blessing of three Beyond mountain guides from past summers coming up to help with these trips! What a gift it was to see them again and to watch them step back into that role of leading others to Jesus through the mountains.

Trips were graced with some incredible weather, views, and interactions with nature that they will never forget! Swimming in rivers and waterfalls, seeing mountain goats and bears, and enjoying meals while looking out over mountain ridges were glimpses of Heaven for these trips.

Week 5 Mountain Trips Finished!!

Last week’s mountaineering trips hailed from Alabama, Texas, Wisconsin, and South Carolina! They ranged from families, to best friends, to Young Life Campaigner’s groups.

All of the groups experienced both physical triumphs and profound spiritual breakthroughs. They crossed glaciers, rock climbed and rappelled, glissaded for a whole day, swam in nature’s pools, made snow-cones, and even praised God for the rain that made the sunshine feel that much sweeter. Campers and leaders alike bravely faced their fears and got to rely on the Lord for supernatural strength to overcome challenges. One group sang Amazing Grace together at their summit and others simply took in the splendor, talking to Him out loud! God touched hearts amid specific answered prayers, a breathtaking overnight solo under a sky full of stars, and several campers accepting Jesus for the first time.

Daily, the campers practiced picking up their own crosses to carry up the mountain, realizing their physical strain was nothing close to what Jesus endured; with one camper beautifully concluding that the journey was truly about closeness to God rather than the summit itself. Ultimately, a powerful theme of redemption defined the week; because though many arrived carrying heavy uncertainty, they left understanding that they are kingdom-bound, secure in their worth in God, and deeply aware that this life and this world are not the end of the story.

Milestones and Memories on the Jerv
Week 3 of sea kayaking at Beyond featured a sweet group of girls from Greenville, South Carolina! These girls just graduated high school and paddled the Jervis as one last adventure together with their Young Life leader. They said they couldn’t have imagined a more perfect or special final trip with each other, and that this experience brought an incomparable intimacy in relationship with Christ and one another!

🏔️Peaks & Pivots🏔️
Week 3 of our Beyond Mountain trips was a great success! We welcomed four groups on the trail, traveling all the way from North Carolina, Georgia, and Washington.

Although the groups immediately faced low spirits and unexpected disappointments, our guides navigated these situations exceptionally well. They pivoted when needed and delivered deep content that constantly pointed everyone back to Christ.

As the week unfolded, the weather became a tangible reminder of God’s intentional care. After enduring a complete white-out at the summit, the skies cleared into perfect weather for the overnight solos. This created a rare, undistracted space and a sacred silence for these participants to face their weaknesses and encounter Jesus. In a world where everything is easy and accessible, they pushed through what several called the hardest thing they have ever done. Standing on the other side of that challenge and hearing them say, “I can’t believe I just did that,” was especially moving for the leaders who accompanied them.

Georgia in the Great Outdoors!
This week Beyond hosted our second week of sea kayakers; this time hailing from Atlanta, Georgia! These girls just graduated high school and came on a last hurrah with their leaders before they head to college in the fall. They focused on identity and how to realistically apply a relationship with Jesus to their daily lives as they enter this new season.

Nature sightings this week of course included baby seals swimming with their moms, some beautiful and vibrant starfish, and bald eagles soaring through the sky!

Triumph on Trail
Another week of Beyond trips is in the books! We sent out five groups on the trail and two additional groups on the water. During the Say So, 17 campers stood up to share how they saw the Lord moving on their trips. We celebrate with those who met the Lord for the first time and were saved, as well as those who committed to making their relationship with Jesus a central part of their lives.

We are so proud of every camper, leader, and guide who persevered through challenging weather. Their trust in the Lord’s provision and protection created space for Him to show up in beautifully unexpected ways, teaching them more about themselves and the power of teamwork.
