Survive the Streets This charity hosts an annual event supporting people in need by giving them gear to help them survive the streets in Seattle. It began when a couple gave warm clothing to people living on the streets of Seattle on Thanksgiving Day in 1999. Last year, during our annual event, we gave out 200 coats and warm blankets plus many other useful items. Now, we want to help more people

so we are creating a website that allows you to select a person from your community, view the two things needed by that person right now, and give funds towards fulfilling those needs. We find the items (things like work boots, sleeping bags, bus passes, and backpacks) or services providers (such as dentists or barbers) and deliver them. We are working with social service agencies who provide services to these clients. They have identified individuals who need items or services that their agency just does not provide and connected these people with us at Survive the Streets.

We are so excited we are bringing our event back to life in our town of Walla Walla. We will be doing an event on Thanksgiving morning here to help the families of migrant workers.. stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks...

The 3rd hour of TODAY shines a light on Bernie and Marita Hart, a retired couple teaching tai chi to the homeless in Salt Lake City to create community and give them a mentally and physically stimulating workout.

In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. The reason: The country applies the “Housing First” concept. Those affected by homelessness receive a small apartment and counselling – without any preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected thus make their way back into a stable lif...

This past Thanksgiving morning, eleven Seattle Academy students and six SAAS parents/alumni volunteered at the annual Survive the Streets (STS) event in downtown Seattle.
