Next Meeting: October 4, 2017, 7:00 pm

​Andrée Beddoe, local knitwear designer will join us on October 4 to talk about knitted embroidery. Not what you think. Keep reading. Check out her design after you finish reading, Dianthus is definitely going on Susan's queue first, but will be followed by others.

Andrée Beddoe learned to knit when she was 6 years old from a close family friend. In her early twenties she taught herself to crochet because she loved making doilies. After graduating from the University of Washington with an electrical engineering degree, Andrée worked in the corporate world for 20 years. She left Microsoft in June of 2011 and started knitting again to stay productive while looking for another job, but enjoyed knitting and learning new things so much that she couldn’t stop! Andrée is a true knitting pioneer who enjoys developing new techniques as a way to improve a design. Her goal is that each pattern should teach the knitter something new, making every pattern a fun learning opportunity for knitters of all levels. Andrée has since become a prolific designer and teacher. Her projects and designs can be found on Ravelry under “Andrée Beddoe Designs”, http://www.ravelry.com/designers/andree-beddoe. She will be speaking about her technique of creating knit wear that looks embroidered, but which is actually done by knitting. Her patterns are really beautiful, it’s another great way to add some beautiful color accents to your knitting.

TONIGHT! Seattle Knitters Guild first ever KAL will start!

This mystery knit along was designed for the Seattle Knitters guild. This is a free pattern for all Seattle Knitting Guild members in 2017. If you are not a current Seattle Knitting Guild member you can still purchase the pattern. For 1 year from the release of the 3rd and final clue half of the purchase price will support the Guild as a fundraiser.

It is for our annual bacchanal of desserts and knitting and yarn-o! Tonight we will gather outside, in the field next to the church. If the weather turns on us, we can move inside, but plan on being outside.Dessert potluck! Please bring your favorite dessert to share. (Doesn’t have to be a summer dessert - bring gingerbread if you like!) We will have small plates, napkins and utensils, so please bring whatever you need to serve your dessert.

BYO Chair! Paulette has a couple of card tables for the desserts, but we won’t have chairs. Bring whatever you wish to sit upon, be it blanket, chair or nothing.

YARN-O! Seattle’s hottest fiber game - exclusively for you! (Think BINGO, but fiber related.) And prizes! Show ‘n’ Tell! Just because we are outside doesn’t mean we don’t want to admire your FOs! But do remember that we are outside, and if your FO is delicate or in danger of dirt or grass, you might want to wait until September.

It’s always a really fun event - so mark your calendar, and we’ll see you TONIGHT on Wednesday, August 2!

This Wednesday 4/5 we will welcome Lydia Christiansen from Abundant Earth Fibers, an independent textile mill on Whidbey Island. Lydia describes her work beautifully on the About page of her site:

“My work in textiles is an expression of devotion to source, process, and the interconnectedness of all things. At the heart of my work is the belief that the earth gives abundantly for us to thrive. I choose domestic, non-superwash wool for all my yarn, some of which is raised near my home in the Pacific Northwest. I rely heavily on natural, un-dyed fiber colors, and when possible, natural dyes. I operate industrial textile equipment in a workshop setting to scour, card, and spin my yarn. We live in a world predominantly unaware of the true cost to humanity for inexpensive textiles. I am broken-hearted, inspired, and committed to projects that move us towards healing for the greater good.”

Some of you saw Lydia’s lovely yarn at Madrona. She will be bringing more to our meeting, where we will hear more of her story.

Check out this AMAZING event hosted by The Bazaar Girls - the Bazaar Girls' Getaway Retreat 3/30-4/2!

Their Rockstar teachers include Ann Budd, Nancy Bush, and Jeane DeCoster. The retreat will begin on Thursday with check in beginning at 12:30 p.m. (please note that lunch is not included on Thurs.) Classes will begin on Thursday at 2 p.m. The retreat will end following brunch on Sunday. The cost for the weekend is $625 and includes a class with each teacher, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, a SWAG bag and MORE FUN than anyone should be allowed to have in one weekend!

Tonight! Wednesday March 1 Guild Meeting. Doors open at 6:30 pm; meeting starts at 7:00 pm. This month, we welcome Shawn Prenzlow, Spyglass Fiberworks to teach us more details about the substance of our lives - fiber. How is merino different from Cormo? Why would you choose wool from a Columbia sheep instead of Targhee? Which is the best choice for drape? For softness? For hard wearing? And do you want worsted spun or woolen spun? Single? Multi? Chain?
