Anaemia and malnutrition are often discussed through numbers — haemoglobin levels, weight, deficiencies and test results. But behind those numbers are everyday realities that shape a woman’s health.

In my work with communities, I have seen how access to healthcare, food choices, affordability, awareness and continued support can influence whether a health concern is identified early and addressed effectively.

This is why the response cannot stop at advice or treatment alone. Screening, counselling, affordable nutrition and consistent follow-up all have a role to play. Poshan Maah brings attention to these issues, but the work of improving nutrition and health has to continue well beyond one month.

For me, the focus is simple: reaching people early, understanding the realities they face, and ensuring support continues when it is needed.

Education can change how a community understands, approaches and takes charge of its health.

Through our programmes focused on adolescent girls, maternal, and child health, nutrition and community health workers, we work to equip individuals and communities with the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices about their health.

Because when knowledge reaches the community, it does more than create awareness - it builds agency, strengthens decision-making and creates the foundation for healthier generations.
