Completion of Cold Storage Project at Phanmaggi Gardens in Badibou Saba
We are pleased to announce the completion of the cold storage project at Phanmaggi Gardens in Badibou Saba. This initiative is the result of a successful partnership between Phanmaggi Kafoo and Engineers Without Borders, Karlsruhe.
Over the years, this collaboration has supported several key developments at the gardens, including a water supply system, an organic fertilizer production project, a market shed for produce, and a large storage facility for the fertilizer produced. The addition of the cold storage unit now enables the extension of the shelf life of the vegetables cultivated at the garden, further enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of the operation.
The cold storage facility has been designed to be self-sustaining. Gardeners contribute monthly to a maintenance fund that covers ongoing upkeep costs. A similar arrangement applies to the use of the cold storage: gardeners will be charged D5 per day to store a bin of produce, with these funds deposited into the maintenance account to ensure the long-term operational sustainability of the facility.
This project represents a significant step forward in supporting local agriculture, improving food preservation, and empowering our community.
