Day two was long and hard 10+hrs of covering ground (8200ft of gain and nearly the same of descent), but i was tons, tons stronger than on day one ~ it is truly remarkable how quickly the body can recover from a near total shut down! i will post some pics of day two, but here's a vid of day 4 (day three was spent in a storm (oy veh!) - so no pics at all - just 7.5hrs of numb extremities...

Stage one done and dusted.
Jesus Christo!!! Note to self: on hottest day of the year, at altitude, above tree line ~ Please, please remember to drink more than .5 liter of water and consume something more substantial than 2 gel packs when you run for 5hrs and 40min w/6000 ft of elevation gain. Lesson learned, but sh*t it was painful. Thank God tomorrow is only 53K w/8000+ of elev.

24hrs to start - at least our first day should be good weather ~ after that, it looks like the Mountains have decided to load for bear! But if you can't run with the Big Dogs, better stay on the GD porch! We came to run, and run we shall!

Packets picked up. Registration done - seeing a few more people strolling around w/TransAlpine duffels slung over their shoulders. Send off party and feed tomorrow night. Some tough, tough stages ahead and weather looks like it's in cahoots with the course profile to make this the toughest race in the 7yrs history of the TranAlpine. One more day to HTFU, then it's time for some serious throw down!

Touch down! We are onsite in Oberstdorff, Germany ~ beautiful mountain village. Storm clouds darken the sky, but spirits are very high. Not a sign of any other competitors (unless we've registered for the octogenarian division - tons of seniors marching around with ski poles and very well broken in hiking boots!), but suspect they'll be arriving in the next couple of days.

Despite even a hurricane trying to get in the way (we fly DC~Munich), the race is a total "GO"! Will try hard to post on this page each day, but don't know what my bandwith resources (figuratively/ literally) will be at the end of each long, hard day. Energy transmissions 9/3-9/10 gratefully accepted!

Friends and compadres - On Sat. Aug. 27th we are going to have a wee celebration and send off for wolfman and Brent to wish them Godspeed and good health as they get ready to take on the Alps! The location will be at the 418 Public House starting at 4pm. Bring yourself, bring friends, and think about sponsoring Team "Running Cuz They Can't" as they compete in the 2011 Goretex TransAlpine Race!
