‘Tis the season to be seduced by wisteria, a stunning vine that grows bigger, faster, and farther than you might imagine. Still interested? Be prepared to offer it a beefy support structure that can sustain it long into the future. On your way to the nursery? Read up on its maintenance requirements before you get out of the car. Deciding between purple and white? Send pics when you‘ve settled on one of each.

And that’s a wrap! The 2025-26 season flew by, and we ended with a celebration at today’s membership meeting where we did the hail and farewell to board members and accepted a donation from Coldwell Banker Bain, given by the company after a member sold a house with with Patti G, one of their agents and a longtime club member. We’ve also reveled in members’ gardens and had an enthusiastic response to our booth at the recent Health and Wellness Expo put on by the Edmonds School District. Thank you to all who gave their time to make this the extraordinary club that it is! Here’s to our 103rd year! 🍰🥂🌸

It’s that time of year again, the time when we search out and dig up poison hemlock, a deadly noxious w**d that harms both people and livestock. One of many plants in the carrot family, this one is easily identified by its smooth stems streaked with purple blotches. It starts life as a low rosette of leaves that you might miss in your garden, but then leaps skyward in its second year (like this one on 7th Ave N in the Edmonds bowl), putting out a cloud of tiny white flowers. It’s important dig it out by the roots before it goes to seed, and then dispose of the entire plant in the trash. Do not leave it lying on the ground to die, as it can remain toxic even when crunchy dry.

Enkianthus campanulatus is starting its spring display of the most darling red-veined nodding flowers. This mature specimen shows what an excellent addition it can be in a landscape. Plant one anywhere you’d put a rhody, and prepare for some amazing fall color later.

Highly recommend visiting the Bainbridge Island Art Museum by June 11 (it’s free!) to see the exhibit featuring George & David Lewis (formerly known as Little & Lewis). As artists, they created beautiful garden art that is featured in gardens throughout the PNW. Don’t miss this!
