It’s official. M is taking a social media hiatus.
For the last 8 months, we have been mostly off of social media. In its place, we have read books, learned new languages, taught more classes, picked up new skills such as singing, cooking traditional foods, and more. Time spent away from social media continues to be more enjoyable than being on it.
A thought experiment begun at the beginning of this hiatus: can we teach more people and organizations to benefit from mindfulness training without social media?
Well, this experiment continues as M’s social media takes an official hiatus.
Moving forward, we are excited to focus our energies on delivering more practical + relevant mindfulness content to you via our newsletters. You will also get updates of our latest event offerings through our newsletter.

Had so much fun teaching the Ready, Set, Go 2021! Masterclass today. We worked through challenges from 2020 and turned them into opportunities. We set intentions that we can see feel hear smell and touch for 2021 as our anchor. And set up daily rituals to live from an intentional space and make everyday a success! The class ended with group feeling excited, courageous, expanded, calm, and more. YES to 2021!
We are grateful to the participants who showed up at this beginning of the year to grow with us. They were eager to learn, they were present, they participated fully. Thank you.

Happy New Year everyone! Write down your intention for your year ahead. It may be a word, a phrase, an image, a song that reminds you of your best self doing your best work in the world.
Then go through your day living this word, this phrase, this image or this song.
Let it fill you up all of today. And then tomorrow. And then the day after. And the next day.
Be present to your intention in each moment.

Have you ever wonder why the moment you start meditating, a million thoughts flood your mind? Lots of people say: "I can't meditate, my mind just won't stop."
And it's perfectly normal to have never-ending thoughts when you just want your mind to shut up during meditation for a few moments of quiet.
When we are awake but not really actively engaged in any specific mental activity, our brain doesn't actually hit pause and stop. Our brain's default mode is to think. So when we are not telling it what to think, it defaults to thinking about everything - daydreaming, recalling memories, the to-do list, envisioning the future, creative ideas, monitoring the environment, thinking about the intentions of others, etc. It goes on.
That's why a lot of meditation gets you to focus on your breath and count them. You are telling your mind where you want it to focus and what you want it to do.
Overtime, you start to notice when you are ruminating in a past memory, and can redirect your mind towards being here in the present moment, giving the task or person in front of you your fullest attention.
So if you are wanting to build a meditation practice, start with counting your breath.
Inhale. Exhale. 1.
Inhale. Exhale. 2.
Inhale. Exhale. 3.
Inhale. Exhale. 4.
And when you find your mind wandering off, start again.
Inhale. Exhale. 1.
Inhale. Exhale. 2.
Inhale. Exhale. 3.
Inhale. Exhale. 4.
This has worked wonders for many of our workshop participants who felt like they couldn't meditate because their minds are so active all the time.

When feeling stress or anxious, most of us take big breaths in. But the key to calming down is to focus on your exhale instead of your inhale.
Do slow gentle exhales, counting back from 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Exhaling stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which influences our body’s ability to relax and calm down.
