The BMKF Family is very proud to announce that two more scholars have finished their studies and now, there are two new attorneys in Nepal!

Please join me in congratulating Nimiska and Saniya, who in spite of many hardships endured this past year as well as the numerous lockdowns in Nepal, have successfully completed law school! These two women are remarkable, talented, smart, determined and brave!

Earth Day
April 22, 2021

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” -Jane Goodall

Happy Earth Day from all of us at the Bo M. Karlsson Foundation. May you make the differences that matter.

Today, we honor Women and Girls in Science. We are proud to have alumnae like Babita Sharma (civil engineering) in our list of successful professional women who followed that path.

International Women and Girls in Science Day is implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women, in collaboration with institutions and civil society partners that aim to promote women and girls in science.

“Is it almost over?"

"Are we really seeing a light at the end of the tunnel?"

"Can we start 2021 already?"

As we count down the days to the end of arguably one of the most tumultuous years of our collective lives, it's easy to get caught up in wishing it were over. In focusing on what's ahead, wanting to wipe this past year from our memories.

But let us not forget.

Let us celebrate what was good and true and embrace the resilience of our scholars. As schools and communities across Nepal shut down in order to confront a deadly world-wide pandemic, still these young women persevered. Dreams did not dissolve. Books were not forever closed and put away. Friendships did not turn to dust. No, quite the contrary. Our six scholars adapted and studied at home while taking care of family and community, never losing sight of the dreams that brought them here in the first place. On the darkest of days, they instead set their sights on what will be rather than what was or is.

And we are reminded. That this is the thread that weaves through the very foundation of our goal at the Bo M. Karlsson Foundation…to embrace change and empower women in Nepal to be a part of that change, regardless of the difficulties that go along with it. 2020 has been the year that stretched and tested these limits.

Can you see it now? The light rather than the darkness? The hope rather than the despair? To all of you who have been a part of this mission, our supporters and donors, you are part of that light. Without you, and without the hope that your support brings, the darkness wins. Let us not forget but let us move forward in the light of the season and the hope that stretches before us.

Thank you and Happy Holidays to all who are part of this amazing family!

Happy birthday to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Nobel Laureate and Africa’s first democratically elected female president.

Sirleaf was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011, alongside Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkol Karman for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work.

She was elected President of Liberia in 2005 and oversaw a reign of uninterrupted peace in Liberia for 12 years. She stepped down from the position in October 2017.

The marigold (sayapatri in Nepali) is the most important flower in Nepal. It is used in religious ceremonies and to decorate their Hindu temples.

In Mexico, the marigold (caléndula in spanish) is considered the flower of the dead and it is used to decorate ancestral altars during Día de los Mu***os celebrations.
