This Juneteenth, our President & CEO Loria Yeadon reflects on the gap between a promise made and a promise kept, and on how that history shapes the Y's work today.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. That gap is the heart of this holiday, and a reminder that freedom is rarely delivered all at once.

For 150 years, the YMCA of Greater Seattle has strengthened community thanks to generations of leaders, volunteers, and supporters who believe in creating opportunity for all.

On October 10, 2026, our community will come together for a once-in-a-generation milestone as we celebrate legacy and look toward the next 150 years at the Changemakers Gala.

Hosted at the Hyatt Regency Seattle, this evening honors the people and purpose behind the Y’s impact, recognizing the changemakers who have shaped our community and those who will carry it forward.
