"Immerse yourself in the meaning of the teachings, day after day, month after month and the spiritual qualities of a Bodhisattva will develop without difficulty, like honey collecting in the hive as the bees go from flower to flower, gathering nectar."

Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

The Excellent Path to Enlightenment, Shambhala.

The teachings of the Dharma have great power, but unless you practice them properly, that power will remain merely as a potential that is never expressed. If one has a tool and does not use it, not much will be accomplished. An unused tool is not particularly beneficial in itself. But if you truly put the teachings into practice, as the Dharma takes birth and grows in your mindstream, all your faults will naturally diminish and all your positive qualities will spontaneously blossom, just as the sun, as it rises higher in the morning, gradually spreads increasing light throughout the world.

It was with the deepest sorrow and sadness that we learned of the parinirvana of Kyabjé Dodrupchen Rinpoche, truly one of the greatest masters of this era. We rejoice that he is now resting in tukdam*. May all his enlightened intentions be fulfilled during this special time!

Kyabjé Dodrupchen Rinpoche was among the most important Tibetan masters of this time. With his immense erudition, wisdom and realisation, he was a great champion and custodian of the Nyingma and Dzogchen traditions, and more particularly the principal holder of the Longchen Nyingtik lineage. He was a profound source of inspiration to Dharma practitioners all around the world.

Rinpoche was such an extraordinary being; blessings just poured from him like the sun, and to be in his presence was to experience what realization in all its vastness and depth must mean.

Throughout a lifetime that spanned almost a whole century, he continuously brought benefit to a countless number of beings. We pray that the entire range and depth of his profound spiritual activity may continue to flourish in the hearts and minds of all his disciples, and especially of those closest to him who continue his spiritual legacy. 🙏🏼 🌈 💫

*Tukdam is the meditative practice and experience that is frequently used to refer to the period following the death of a great master, during which time he or she is absorbed in luminosity. The master may remain in this state for a number of days.

We join with the International Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism as they invite the global spiritual family to take a few moments to be still, to come back to our mindful breathing, as we together hold Thay in our hearts in peace and loving gratitude for all he has offered the world. The passing of a great master is a time for turning the mind inwards and practicing what they taught. 🙏🌈🌏

Whatever kinds of mental appearances arise
whether they are gentle or violent,
subtle or coarse,
of long or short duration,
strong or weak, good or bad

Observe their nature, and avoid any obsessive evaluation of them as being one thing and not another.

Emptiness, the ultimate nature of Dharmakaya, the Absolute Body, is not a simple nothingness.

It possesses intrinsically the faculty of knowing all phenomena.
This faculty is the luminous or cognitive aspect of the Dharmakaya, whose expression is spontaneous.

The Dharmakaya is not the product of causes and conditions;
it is the original nature of mind.

It is exactly as the omniscient Longchenpa said:

When the wise and virtuous are not held in esteem, yet affected and ignorant ones are immensely honored, this is a mark of the degenerate age!

When these shallow, ignorant people are respected by others, their arrogance also increases.

Like pouring gasoline on a fire, eventually it can only harm others without benefiting themselves.

“The point of shamatha is to bring focus, to gather your mind rather than to let it remain dispersed. Whenever you don’t feel so well, and feel somewhat disconcerted and uneasy, shamatha sitting eases you deeply so everything comes together to a point. The sense of easeness is very important- that is the spirit of meditation “
