Friends, we are saddened to announce the CANCELLATION of next week's Pong for Hope event. A short message from our Director:

"Hello friends, the health of our community must be our first priority. After hearing feedback from our volunteers and guests, and reviewing King County Health Department and Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations to keep all of us healthy and safe, we have decided to cancel Pong for Hope on March 20.

Pong for Hope is our primary fundraiser that allows us to support the Zambian community with education, health and empowerment opportunities. Stay tuned for more details on how you can continue to stay involved in Dwankhozi Hope's mission. In the meantime, please take a moment and consider making a gift online or by mail. Thanks for being part of our amazing community of supporters!"

Today a hero was laid to rest. Charles Masala was our founder, our friend, our brother - he went to be with the Lord after a tragic bike accident. He was laid to rest at the school at Dwankhozi Hope to honor his legacy. Over 2000 people joined to pay their respects to this very special man, including our Board Chair - Marisa Gulbranson Gronholz. We at Dwankhozi Hope will strive to continue in his vision of empowering our future generations through education and hope to dream wider! Rest in peace Charles Masala - you will always be remembered.

This article speaks to the goodness of Charles Masala - "A Vancouver professional engineer who went to extraordinary lengths to promote education in southern Africa." Thank you for all you have done for the communities who knew and loved you.

These are some of the many hundreds of Zambian students who've benefited from Charles Masala's visionary efforts to create a school in the Dwankhozi area in the eastern part of the country.

We mourn the loss of our founder and dear friend, Charles Masala. Charles embodied Dwankhozi Hope and has been the inspiration for our mission. He grew up in a community very similar to Dwankhozi in the Eastern Province of Zambia. Through education, he impacted change. As a successful engineer, he was involved in projects around the globe to transform the physical world through design. As an authentic human being, he built relationships across cultures and connected communities together. As an inspirational leader, he realized a dream that education could change lives and transform the world. As a strong man of faith, he followed his calling to act justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with our God. Charles Masala made the world a better place. We at Dwankhozi Hope are committed to ensuring his legacy lives on.
