On October 10, we gathered with community members, leaders, advocates, and supporters for an evening rooted in our shared commitment to building a more just Seattle. Legacy in Motion celebrated the connections, collective action, and community power that continue to move our mission forward.

From meaningful conversations and powerful voices to moments of generosity during our auction, the evening reflected what we can accomplish when we come together with purpose. Our legacy is built through the people we stand alongside, the relationships we nurture, and our collective commitment to a future where everyone can thrive with dignity and opportunity.

Our work continues, and we invite you to be part of it. Help us keep this legacy in motion by sharing our mission, connecting neighbors with our resources, advocating for a more equitable Seattle, and supporting our work. Together, we can strengthen our community and build a future rooted in dignity, opportunity, and belonging.

Keep the legacy in motion. Support Byrd Barr Place today.

Join us on Sunday, October 11, for a morning of worship, reflection, and spiritual renewal at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seattle’s historic Central District. Reverend Dr. Michael Eric Dyson will return to the pulpit for the second time, sharing a message centered on spiritual revival and renewal.

In a season when communities continue to navigate change and hold space for one another, gathering in faith offers an opportunity to reflect, reconnect, and draw strength from the wisdom and hope we share. All are welcome to be part of this Sunday morning service.

Legacy in Motion is an evening of celebration, connection, and community power, but the impact can extend far beyond the gala. There are many ways to be part of this work, including making a gift to Byrd Barr Place.

Your support helps strengthen community access to essentials, including keeping families warm, supporting young people as they pursue their goals, and helping elders access fresh, healthy food. Every contribution helps carry that spirit of community care forward long after the celebration ends.

Want to put your generosity in motion? Visit the Byrd Barr Place website https://byrdbarrplace.org/ to make a donation and help keep the momentum moving.

What we inherit. What we build. What we change. What we make possible together.

At the Legacy in Motion Gala, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson invites us to think beyond the individual and recognize the people, history, hope, and collective action that shape our future. From understanding the history that brought us here, to choosing hope over simply being defined by the moment, to removing the barriers that stand in the way of Black flourishing—Dyson challenges us to consider what justice, love, and collective power can make possible.

And ultimately, as he reminds us: “Out of many, one.” This is more than a keynote. It’s a conversation about legacy, hope, justice, and the power of coming together to create what’s possible next.

Every community has a story that deserves to be carried forward. It lives in the people who have been here, the neighbors who know one another, the lessons passed between generations, and the hopes people hold for what comes next.

For the Record creates space for those perspectives to be documented in your own words. What makes your community special? What should never be overlooked? What do you hope future generations understand about the place you call home?

Take a few minutes to share your perspective through the For the Record survey. Your story adds another part to the record.
What do you hope people remember about your community?
