Friends of Cheasty Greenspace/Mt. View We are neighbors and community members dedicated to restoring and revitalizing SE Seattle's Cheasty Greenspace for the health and well being of all!

We are a group of neighbors and community members dedicated to the restoration of a 10 acre parcel of forest within Seattle's Cheasty Greenspace. We do this because we believe having safe natural spaces are essential for healthy urban living for our kids and our community! These efforts have been recognized and the Friends of Cheasty Greenspace/Mt.View were awarded the 2013 Denny Award for Conserv

ation and Environmental Stewardship. Come join us for our monthly work parties (first Saturday of every month); we are removing invasive species, planting native plants, and developing a trail system to increase positive connectivity in our neighborhood. Our efforts are supported by Seattle Parks and the Green Seattle Partnership.

Cheasty Mt/View is stoked to have schools returning to the woods to participate in eco-system connection and place-based learning and restoration! Bright Water Waldorf School recently sent their Grade School Environmental Education class to Cheasty Trails and Bike Park.

Students were introduced to native plants and trees within the greenspace, and also helped remove ivy and blackberry, freeing up areas to be planted in the coming fall. We are so grateful for their laughter, curiosity, wonder, and hard work! Thank you, Bright Water students!

The Duwamish Tribe call the hill "Greenish-Yellow Spine" (Lushootseed: qWátSéécH, pronounced QWAH-tseech, and in many ways, our hope is that the restoration work we do on these lands is co-participating in restoring this forest-scape to its original name.

It's time to gather together to help take care of Cheasty Greenspace!

Monthly Third Saturday work parties are kicking off this month with the first restoration work party tomorrow, Saturday, September 16 from 9:30am-12:30pm. We meet at View Point Park in New Rainier Vista at 9:30am to kick things off.

Tomorrow we will return to the "Sprucelands" for continued restoration work. This is a largish seasonal wetland we transformed from a huge blackberry thicket to a more functional habitat for critters. This month we will remove older compost piles and get new areas ready for winter planting.

Restoration and recreation go hand in hand!

Please register in advance:

If you are under 18 and attending the event without a parent or guardian, please come to the event with the waiver below signed by a parent or guardian.

Work party in the woods this SATURDAY, November 5 from 9:00am-12:00pm. We'll be giving the Hazelnut Trail some trail-maintenance love; removing non-native plants from the interior of the trail loop; and doing some much needed garbage clean up.

Wear smart and warm layers; bring your own gloves if you have them. We'll provide some coffee and doughnuts to get you moving!

Meet at the main trailhead kiosk on Mt. View Drive at 9:00am for tool distribution and task delegation.

Please register in advance HERE so we can properly prepare for this volunteer event-thank you!

A small fire was reported this morning in Cheasty MtView by a neighbor walking their dog. Grateful that SFD was able to quickly attend to the situation. The conditions are SO DRY out there! This could have been a really bad situation. A reminder that there is a fire ban within King County and fires are not allowed within Seattle Parks. Thanks for keeping your eyes up, community!

Happy Ten Year Anniversary to our trailhead in Cheasty/MtView! In the past decade these stairs truly have become the threshold crossing into all that we hoped. It has been beautiful to witness to many people enjoy these woods because of safe and welcoming access.
