According to the USDA and RAND Corporation, veterans face a 7.4 percentage-point higher risk of hunger compared to non-veterans—many struggling with rising costs, fixed incomes, and barriers to accessing assistance programs.

No one who has served our nation should have to fight hunger at home.

Last week, we shared how nearly 1 in 10 Washingtonians rely on SNAP and 1 in 4 families with children face food insecurity.
Those numbers represent real people — parents skipping meals so kids can eat, seniors choosing between groceries and medication, and workers doing everything right yet still falling short.

🧺 In food banks across the state, visits have hit record highs.
💵 Working families are stretched by housing, gas, and grocery costs that keep rising faster than wages.

🥦 Many are turning to emergency food programs for the first time in their lives.

This is not just a temporary problem — it’s a systemic crisis of affordability. Ensuring every Washingtonian has enough to eat requires more than monthly funding — it takes sustained community support, local action, and policy that puts families first.
