This book is a history.
A gathering of anecdotes, artworks, and artifacts tracing the pervasive and often perverted origins of our digital tools.

This book is a script.
A Sexual History of the Internet extends beyond the page: a participatory lecture performance activated through the audience’s phones. A polyvocal text, read aloud. Citation as chorus.

This book is an experiment.
A redistribution model. Featuring 45 contributors whose work reshapes how we understand the internet, s*x, and s*xual technologies. Through “Citational Splits,” 30% of profits are shared with those cited.

Join us May 1st for a Sexual History of the Internet.

Using a shared script on your phone, the audience becomes a collective voice: reading, responding, and activating the work together in real time.

As language moves through the room, hidden histories begin to surface—revealing how the internet has been shaped by desire, power, and control.

Come be part of it.

Please bring a charged smartphone with Instagram access to participate.

Knowing they could not replace the countless cultural items and records lost in the 2021 Dixie fire, in 2023, members of the Roundhouse Council met with atelierjones around a kitchen table to rebuild their lost after school education center. While the former center was housed in a typical western home, it quickly became clear that a design rooted in traditional Maidu culture would hold deep meaning for the community.

Maidu roundhouses were traditionally laid out with tribe members joining hands to trace a circle of the proper size for gatherings. The design for the central space of this roundhouse uses segmented 4’ CLT panels that nod to this human-centered design practice. A skylight above this central volume is angled to align with the summer solstice, casting a band of light across the space that shifts with the seasons.
The building is composed of two main elements: the central rotunda is the anchor representing the Miadu community, intersected with a linear porch that faces out to the valley, the mountains, and the school playfields, welcoming the broader community.

Space City, in collaboration with , presents an evening with around A Sexual History of the Internet—a project tracing the entangled histories of s*xuality, technology, and power.
Part lecture, part performance, part collective reading, the work unfolds through audience participation. Using their phones, attendees activate a shared script, becoming a dispersed chorus that voices archival fragments, overlooked narratives, and submerged lineages of the digital.

Moving between research and embodiment, the piece considers the internet not as a neutral tool, but as a site shaped by desire, extraction, and control.

Copies of A Sexual History of the Internet will be available via ***rbooks before and after the program. A reception will follow.
