Today, POCAAN stands with a heavy hearts as we grieve the brutal murder of 49 and the senseless shooting of many other this past weekend in Orlando FL. As an organization working tirelessly to promote equality for all, We are extremely saddened by this act of hate and yet we will not give way to fear and intolerance.

We pledge not only to pray for the victims and their families. We also stand even more determined to fight against all injustice, Inequality and especially the terror enacted upon the LGBTQ community because of homophobia, victimization and theological and religious ferocity.

Let this be an eye-opening reminder that attacks on any American, is an attack on all Americans. Regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. The notion that “United We Stand” must one again become a fundamental value of equality and dignity that defines us as a country moving forward.

2012 National Night Out Against Crime with CURB

This is a typical scene found at any one of the over 1,000 Night Out events that happen across the city. Some get togethers are tiny while others grow to encompass many households, and busi...nesses but each is unique to its neighborhood. It is one of the few times when neighbors take time out of their busy schedules and rather than just waving to each other when they take the garbage to the curb, or open there store fronts they get the opportunity to really connect. That is what makes Night Out so special.

If you have never experienced a Neighborhood Night Out, we encourage you to get involved this year with CURB.
This year Night Out is Tuesday August 7, 2012, the theme this year is “Together Safer Neighborhoods”.

This marks the City of Seattle’s 28th Annual “Night Out Against Crime” celebration.

Tuesday, August 7th 5 – 9pm

Daylight Saving Time in the United States begins this weekend, early on Sunday morning, March 11, 2012, at 2:00 a.m. and ends Sunday, November 4, 2012, 2:00 a.m.

The reason for daylight savings 2012, like all daylight savings changes, is t...o increase the period of light during the afternoon while decreasing the hours of daylight in the mornings. This is why in 2012 clocks will be moved forward an hour in the beginning of spring and set backward an hour during fall. The practice of DST has its benefits and problems. Adding light to the afternoon benefits afterwork activities and also has an economic benefit to retailers that prosper during daylight hours. However, DST can be problematic for timekeeping, travel and sleep cycles.

DST was first introduced in 1895 by George Vernon Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist. William Willett independently came up with the idea of DST in 1905. As an avid golfer, Willett disliked how his afternoon golf round was cut short by early days. During 1916, Germany and its allies in WW1 were the first countries to adopt daylight savings time to ensure consistent railroad times and limit coal usage.

Interestingly, not all countries will participate in the daylight savings 2012 time changes. About 70 countries worldwide participate in daylight savings, while some major countries like China will not participate in daylight savings in 2012.
