Welcome Houdini the Maine C**n!

Last week we saw a plea from his owner who was beside herself. She was moving into assisted living, making her choose between her senior ShihTzu and Houdini. The cost per month to keep both was $400, you heard that right “per month”, that would have left her with $100 a month to live on. We reached out to offer assistance thinking we could pay what we thought was $400 for the year, so she could keep her beloved boy, which turned quickly into her surrendering him to us instead. Houdini was deeply loved and cared for, he was found by her husky (he got his name from this adventure) as a kitten, and lived with several dogs and cats over the years.

Houdini will be 15 in a few days.

As the distance was too far for us to drive- we asked on Sunday if his owner had anyone who could split the distance with us, (her son-in-law) instantly offered and on Memorial Day Weekend we met up in Cle Elum. Houdini had his intake appt on Tuesday and he’s been with our founder for the past week.

With your generous donations during and our Buttercup Fund Campaign his first vet visit of $363.72 was completed covered. Thank you Darcie Brintnall Wolfe, Mia Pelaez and the two anonymous donors❤️.

Houdini had a senior blood panel with T4 added, fecal/urinalysis and FVRCP vaccination. Houdini is hyperthyroid, he will be taking medications 2x a day for the remainder of his life. He is a candidate for surgery with our friends at FHTC and we’ve reached out to see if we can make this happen for him. He does have dilated pupils but his eyes overall look good and he seems to see fine, he’s underweight which we are actively working on helping him gain about 7 more pounds. He will need his rabies vaccine in 2027. He may need a dental, but we’d like to wait until he’s gained a few more pounds.

Houdini is very sweet, loves attention and people around. He loves a window seat, he’s good during car travel and at the vet office. He’s a talker and loves to tell you he’d like his food faster please. He also likes to play with catnip toys, he’s been polite with the other foundation cats. Houdini is on the fast track for a foster-to-adopt home, we can’t wait for you to meet him!

Charlie went into his foster-to-adopt home on Saturday. His new lady love is RubyJane💗. She lost her best friend (pirate) a one eyed buff colored Pomeranian, not too long ago. She’s been sad and Charlie has the same sweet, easy going personality to help her heal. Not only was Charlie greeted by his immediate foster-to-adopt family, but their parents also came by to say hello to Charlie and welcome him. Charlie has an extended fur family (chickens and a sweet turkey who loves to sit on your lap and loves bananas), also roaming around are once stray cats (all healthy and altered) and some foster cats and kittens and a bunny too! Charlie loves all things and has taken meeting all his fur friends in stride!

Charlie’s soon to be mom, is big into rescuing and tnr, she also does a lot for her animal and human community.

Charlie is already settling in, we know he’s in good hands and adored by many. We miss you little guy-we know you are making many new friends and memories.

Pixel went into his foster-to-adopt home this past Saturday. This photo means the world to us, as you might all know- Pixel was found as a young unaltered stray, was a little beat up and unsure of the world. We’ve had him since October of last year, we kept hoping that one day he’d find the family we were dreaming up for him. Who knew that he too was dreaming, and when he met Finn the chemistry was undeniable. Finn’s younger brother, Emmett is also part of this and is the treat enrichment person for Pixel. We are certain that Emmett will win Pixel’s affections in no time too.

We will update again soon, and we hope the next update you all see is Pixel’s adoption announcement.

Boomer is one of our permanent foundation dogs due to behavior. Don’t let that cute mop top fool you, he’s a biter and he’s not joking or giving warnings -he will cut you, and he’s bitten our founder many times. However, when he’s not doing that- he’s finally showing that he will accept kindness from a human. He’s better at veternarian appointments and had his first professionally groom several months ago and he was a good boy. Due to liability he’s not adoptable. He is safe with our founder, loved and understood. He was found as a horribly neglected matted stray who was sedate shaved to the skin and so terrified that no one could handle him there and he was made rescue only the same day. He came from our friends at the Quincy Shelter, and we are so thankful someone in the public suggested us. The shelter thought he was a senior, at the time of rescue he was more 3ish, (we are in it for the long haul). We wanted to thank everyone who has donated the past few days to our campaign. With your donations we’ve raised $1650 on all platforms. We are a long ways away from our $12k match (if you would share us we’d really appreciate your help). We’ve spent close to $15k already this year alone on medical care and it’s only May (we’ve not started the major care for Yoshi or Audrey yet), their medical should be between $6-$7k. As you can tell we really need your help to keep rescuing senior medical animals (without us they wouldn’t have the possibility of forever homes). We also can’t keep helping if we don’t receive critical funding. Here is our link- https://mtyc.co/70kcbf every donation up to $12,000 is being matched today🎉!

We appreciate each of you and thank you for sharing our posts.

Yesterday, Charlie had his big dental surgery. He had all his diseased teeth removed, leaving only one lower front one left, which wasn’t diseased and was healthy, and he had already reached the limit for being under anesthesia. We will post more about his big day in a bit. He slept well overnight and was the first up this morning, requesting an early breakfast.

Charlie will be heading to his foster-to-adopt home after his surgery checkup and final grooming appointment with us within the next few weeks.

He came to us through an owner relinquishment, and we’ve been working on his care ever since. His hair has grown back, his personality has come out, and to be truthful, he’s the easiest senior gremlin we’ve ever encountered.

Today is a day when Washington charities and nonprofits share the spotlight, shining brightly on what makes their missions special and what makes them stand out to donors. We want donors to see firsthand how we help change lives together with your help in funding critical medical care for dogs like Charlie. We know you’d agree that senior companions need dental care, and you want to know where your donation is put to use. This is one of many medical procedures, sadly, some of which those who have come into our care haven’t had in years, and some, their entire lives.

Dental procedures cost between $1,200-$3,000 and usually aren’t the only medical procedure most need by the time we find them.

Today, we are asking for your help to stand beside us and them for quality care and a better life through medical treatment. We have a total of $12,000 between three matches, where your donation will be matched dollar for dollar to make sure we can continue to help dogs like Charlie. Here is our link- https://mtyc.co/70kcbf every donation up to $12,000 is being matched today🎉!

Together, we can partner for a better life. More to come throughout today! 🐾
