Welcome Houdini the Maine C**n!
Last week we saw a plea from his owner who was beside herself. She was moving into assisted living, making her choose between her senior ShihTzu and Houdini. The cost per month to keep both was $400, you heard that right “per month”, that would have left her with $100 a month to live on. We reached out to offer assistance thinking we could pay what we thought was $400 for the year, so she could keep her beloved boy, which turned quickly into her surrendering him to us instead. Houdini was deeply loved and cared for, he was found by her husky (he got his name from this adventure) as a kitten, and lived with several dogs and cats over the years.
Houdini will be 15 in a few days.
As the distance was too far for us to drive- we asked on Sunday if his owner had anyone who could split the distance with us, (her son-in-law) instantly offered and on Memorial Day Weekend we met up in Cle Elum. Houdini had his intake appt on Tuesday and he’s been with our founder for the past week.
With your generous donations during and our Buttercup Fund Campaign his first vet visit of $363.72 was completed covered. Thank you Darcie Brintnall Wolfe, Mia Pelaez and the two anonymous donors❤️.
Houdini had a senior blood panel with T4 added, fecal/urinalysis and FVRCP vaccination. Houdini is hyperthyroid, he will be taking medications 2x a day for the remainder of his life. He is a candidate for surgery with our friends at FHTC and we’ve reached out to see if we can make this happen for him. He does have dilated pupils but his eyes overall look good and he seems to see fine, he’s underweight which we are actively working on helping him gain about 7 more pounds. He will need his rabies vaccine in 2027. He may need a dental, but we’d like to wait until he’s gained a few more pounds.
Houdini is very sweet, loves attention and people around. He loves a window seat, he’s good during car travel and at the vet office. He’s a talker and loves to tell you he’d like his food faster please. He also likes to play with catnip toys, he’s been polite with the other foundation cats. Houdini is on the fast track for a foster-to-adopt home, we can’t wait for you to meet him!
