Alex has been working in the non-profit sector for the past nine years, with experience in both animal welfare and social services. She recently returned to her roots in animal welfare and currently acts as the Director of Community Services for the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County. During her time in non-profit, she has had the privilege to be one of the first recipients of the AL!VE Impact Awards for her work as an emerging leader in volunteer engagement, and in 2017 was honored as the youngest member of the South Sound Business Examiner’s 40 Under 40. Alex has held workshops at a national and local level and has been a Steering Committee Member of VANNW since 2015. As an extrovert and passionate people person, Alex enjoys building meaningful connections and bringing people together. Born and raised in the Puget Sound, she currently lives in Tacoma with her husband and a menagerie of adopted animals.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone at our Virtual Professional Gathering on July 22nd and we're especially excited about our special Virtual Host, Sarah Varick, CAVS. Read about Sarah below:

Sarah started her healthcare journey working at a specialized dementia-care facility. In 2007, she started as a Volunteer Coordinator with a nonprofit hospice in Colorado. Sarah returned to the PNW in 2015 and joined Providence Hospice. She has served on the National Council of Hospice and Palliative Professionals (NCHPP) Volunteer/Volunteer Manager Steering Committee. During her tenure, the committee implemented a successful and active nationwide Mentorship Program as well as planned the first Virtual Conference for the National Hospice and Palliative Care Program (NHPCO). Sarah has presented at national and state conferences and NCHPP educational section chats. She loves co-facilitating trainings for hospice volunteers and supporting them in their hospice journeys. In her free time, Sarah can be found camping with family or enjoying the water. She has eclectic taste in music but is most well-known for her following of the Dave Matthews Band. She enjoys travel, escape rooms, and is eagerly awaiting the return of Seattle’s NHL team!
