Alex’s* story is a testament to the power of community and education. Separated from his father at a young age, Alex’s upbringing lacked the stability every child deserves. His mother, caught in the cycle of poverty and without access to educational opportunities, did her best to provide for her children. Their home, a small space shared by three, offered little escape from their daily struggles.

Forced to leave school, Alex’s dreams seemed out of reach. It was then that Hope for Life reached out to Alex and his family, offering a chance for him to return to school.
Through a holistic approach that included psychosocial support and educational interventions, Alex embraced education and excelled.

Through the generosity of donors, lives are transformed, and futures are rewritten. Together, we can continue to support children like Alex, creating a brighter tomorrow.

Have you wanted to get involved with Hope for Life's work but aren't sure how? We'd love to invite you to start a peer-to-peer or team fundraising campaign! Visit hopeforlife.us/give and click the "I want to fundraise for this" button.

Peer-to-peer fundraising and team fundraising are potent ways to advocate actively for Hope for Life. By leveraging your personal network, you can introduce HFL to new supporters and exponentially increase our reach and impact. It's easy and intuitive and allows you to personalize your campaign—we promise! The platform will walk you through each of the simple steps. (learn more: hopeforlife.us/getinvolved)

When you tap into your social circles, you help us reach potential new donors who may not have heard of Hope for Life before. This broadens our base of community support, helps Hope for Life increase awareness, and raises more money with less direct effort. This efficiency allows us to allocate more resources directly to our programs and services, amplifying our overall impact.

Not everyone has the financial means to donate, but many have the time, passion, and aptitude to encourage others to give. Peer-to-peer and team fundraising mobilizes these supporters, allowing them to contribute significantly to our mission through their advocacy and enthusiasm.

It is estimated that there are 140 million orphans worldwide. But did you know that only 15.1 million are “true orphans,” meaning there are no living birth parents known? While this number is staggering, when viewed from an alternative vantage point, it means that 80 percent of children worldwide have at least one living birth parent. This number doesn’t take into account grandparents or other extended family members willing to care for the child.

Hope for Life is working towards a continuum of care for homeless and street-involved children and youth that prioritizes family reunification when possible, safe, and sustainable.

We are encouraged by stories the Hope for Life team in Rwanda sends us that celebrate success stories like 11-year-old Ben,* who has consistently attended school as an HFL beneficiary. Ben's family faced numerous challenges that led him to drop out of school and spend his days living on the street. However, in 2023, HFL was able to help support Ben and his family through HFL's programming.

This programming includes reunifying Ben with his family and providing his parents with economic empowerment, training, and counseling. These services had a positive impact on the entire family. Ben reenrolled in school with support from HFL, and his studies are going well! He has also made new friends at school with whom he enjoys playing soccer. "I do like playing soccer at school!"

"May God bless HFL," said Ben. He deeply appreciates all the Changemakers (who donate monthly) and HFL supporters whose generosity enables the programming that supports his and his family's well-being and growth. He promised to appropriately seize the opportunity to return to school with all the necessary school materials, which were so complicated for his family to buy.

Did you know that $158 a year covers school supplies for a child like Ben?

Would you consider becoming one of our monthly supporters or making a one-time gift of $158? Your support helps provide holistic, trauma-informed, and community-based programming for children like Ben and their families.

Join us in making a BIG difference! Today and tomorrow, let's to support Hope for Life and transform lives, just like Neal's. Your generosity will help us onboard 30 new youth in Rwanda over the next 90 days, providing them with holistic care to flourish.

Neal's story is one of resilience and hope. Growing up alone on the streets, he found himself in the toughest of situations. But in 2022, everything changed when he joined HFL. With counseling and mentorship, he regained faith in himself and his future.

From dreaming of becoming a professional mechanic to now working hard towards it, Neal's journey inspires us all. Your donations make stories like his possible. Even a small contribution can make a big impact. Let's reach our goal of $5,000 together! You can donate today and tomorrow at https://www.wagives.org/story/Hflgivebig2024!

Our Story

What would you do if you heard that 11 of your friends were in prison, simply for having no place to sleep?

That was the dilemma Hope for Life’s founders faced in 2009. While interning in Kigali, Rwanda, they met a group of street boys, ages 5-17, and began bringing them food and washing their clothes – earning the name, “Mother.” While back in Washington state, they were devastated to learn from a Rwandan friend that the boys had been arrested and were living in an overcrowded prison full of violent adults. Lice crawled over the mattresses. Meals came once per day. The water was dirty, and there was no toilet or latrine.

They knew they had to do something. The only way that the children could be released was to a home, so they searched for a local non-profit, but couldn’t find anything with the right capacity. All three founders felt encouraged by God to start a grassroots organization to equip children with the resources they needed to escape homelessness and change their futures.
