At Community for Youth, participant feedback is central to the ways that we plan and continuously improve our programming! Our annual Community Voices workshop provides a fun and engaging space for all participants to share feedback, reflections, and ideas through creative games and activities.

Last week, our student leadership team, LeaderCorps, went above and beyond to plan and facilitate a lively and joyful Community Voices workshop. Mentors and students gave feedback on all elements of CfY programming, shared their favorite memories from one-on-ones with their matches, and came up with ideas for workshop topics and community-building activities.

Our LeaderCorps students got in touch with their artistic side when creating this year's feedback-gathering stations - even featuring a surprisingly accurate portrait of our Student Engagement Coordinator, Josué, for "Pin the Answer on Josué."

To our participants and LeaderCorps students who made this year's Community Voices amazing - THANK YOU for the laughter, the great times, and the thoughtful feedback that will help us strengthen our program. We couldn't do this without you!

One-to-one relationships live at the heart of CfY's community-based programming. We start each program year connecting our high school students with a compatible adult mentor. Students join CfY and seek mentorship for a wide variety of reasons, but above all, our youth are seeking meaningful connections with adult mentors who show up consistently, listen actively, explore shared interests, and offer gentle, respectful guidance.

For many students, relationships with adults can be challenging. Adults often take on the role of authority figure, and power dynamics can create barriers. Positive mentoring relationships - like the ones formed at CfY - can help students feel more confident, develop critical life skills, navigate challenges, and advocate for themselves.

Katrina, a senior at Franklin High School, shared that her relationship with her mentor, Tally, has provided support and joy as Katrina prepares to graduate and attend the University of Washington to study architecture. Check out Katrina's reflections below!

Happy ! Today, critical funds are being raised for the nonprofit organizations doing amazing work in their communities all across Washington State - and this year, we're asking our community to help us raise $6,000 in support of our community-based mentoring services.

How does our community-based model step past traditional one-to-one mentoring? At Community for Youth, we know that supporting a young person takes a village! Our goal is to give our students a wide variety of group sizes and settings so that they can find their comfort zones, and build authentic relationships with their mentors, other mentors, and their fellow students. We cultivate a space where students can have a great time with their peers AND build deep connections with our incredible adult mentors.

Sebastian is a current CfY student and senior at Vashon Island High School. For Sebastian, our combined community of students and adult mentors helped create a barrier-free setting for him to connect with his mentor, Coleman. Coleman and the CfY community have provided support as Sebastian prepares to pursue his BFA in Musical Theatre at Central Washington University.

Check out Sebastian's video below. Support students like Sebastian, and make a donation via our GiveBIG portal to help us raise $6,000 by 11:59 PM tonight: https://mtyc.co/r60y6f

Today is - and this year, we invite you to make a donation to Community for Youth, and help us continue to provide community-based mentorship services that support young people as they navigate their unique journeys and get ready for what comes next.

This month, we spoke with four high school seniors who are finishing their time at CfY and preparing to embark on their next chapter. For these four seniors, their compassionate, consistent mentors provided much-needed support in a stressful year, whether it was putting finishing touches on college applications, selecting an undergrad program, exploring a career choice, or just providing a "brain break" from the rapid pace of this final year of high school.

Franklin High School senior Illyas shared his post-high school and career plans, and talked about how his mentor, Sam, gave him critical insight into a career in law. Check out the video below to watch Illyas' reflection on his time at CfY and his connection to his mentor, and stay tuned to our socials for more senior reflection videos!

We're hoping to raise $6,000 by 11:59 PM - and we need your help. Whether you give $20 or $200, every gift gets us closer to our goal, and helps fulfill our mission: to inspire and support students to be their best selves through mentoring, learning experiences, and a powerful community. In a world of credit scores, student loans, mortgages, and more - understanding credit is a crucial financial skill for students, and frankly, people of all ages!

Stacey Black, Lead Financial Educator at BECU, facilitated this month's Community Workshop focused on Financial Literacy. Stacey demystified credit for students, staff, and mentors alike - covering everything from credit scores, to revolving credit, to secured credit and more in an amazing, interactive presentation.

One student shared "I learned a lot from this workshop and made myself more mindful when it comes to being responsible of a credit card," and a mentor shared that they have had a credit card for 13 years but still learned a lot from this Stacey's presentation!

We're definitely feeling ready to use credit wisely over here! Thank you, Stacey and BECU, for teaching us the must-knows of credit - and for making it FUN!

Each year, up to 10 students join CfY's official student leadership team, LeaderCorps, to help shape the CfY student experience by providing program feedback, helping to plan curriculum and events, and leading special projects - and our 2025-26 LeaderCorps team has gone above and beyond this year!

LeaderCorps students PK, Siga, Luis, and Olive have identified volunteer opportunities for CfY students, staff, mentors, and supporters, and have led projects at Seattle Area Feline Rescue and Sound Foundations NW where the CfY volunteer team worked hard to create a transitional tiny home. This volunteer project was supported with a small volunteer grant from United Way of King County. Thank you, Sound Foundations NW and Seattle Area Feline Rescue for the seamless and educational experiences!

Other LeaderCorps projects this year include monthly Mental Health Support Circles facilitated alongside our MSW Interns and in-school recruitment presentations facilitated in classrooms at Franklin High School - visit our Official Blog to read all about the exciting things our LeaderCorps members are working on this year: https://www.communityforyouth.org/blog/cfy-2025-2026-leadercorps-students-lead-recruitment-peer-support-circles-community-service-projects

Thank you, Olive, PK, Luis, Qing, Joe, Jake, Ruwayda, Siga, and Chloe for all of your hard work and efforts this program year. We appreciate you!!
