The What!

- Knowfood opens career paths within the food and beverage industry for Seattle-area high school-age students leading to either supplemental work during secondary & postsecondary education or a meaningful career after high school.
- Supports students in the learning of fundamental & advanced cooking and food-selection techniques.
- Supports teachers in the classroom.
- Connects students

, teachers, parents, and schools to the restaurant industry creating a community

The How!

- By using active industry professionals as volunteers & guest speakers we provide students with a network of direct potential job contacts.
- Trained volunteers with culinary backgrounds support already established in-school programming offering tips, advice, support and hopefully a lot of fun.
- With 1-4 volunteers for each class time knowfood supports the reduction of student-to-adult ratios, supplementing SPS with more face-to-face learning time.
- knowfood can connect the educational community at large with the restaurant industry at large, providing access to resources SPS does not traditionally have. The Who!

- knowfood is a state accredited non profit organization waiting for federal 501(c)(3) tax status.
- For now, me! Joe Rieke, executive director, programs manager, solo volunteer, guy in charge… you get the picture.
- But! I have a ton of help, but not in official capacity, just you wait though and watch us grow!

We wanted to say a big thank you to our friends at The Octopus Bar! Last night they surprised us with an incredible donation as part of their "8 days of giving" holiday extravaganza. These folks are some of the most generous and engaged people out there. They are such fantastic stewards of their community and we can't say we love them and thank them enough!

If you haven't been to their spot yet, go, that is an official knowfood endorsement.
