๐Ÿ‚Emma, she/her, is a fourth-year student at the OSU Corvallis campus where she is studying climate science.
She's most excited to learn more about the lava lands and how they may be affected by the changing climate. Emma's favorite outdoor activities are sand volleyball and snowboarding!

โ›ณJadon, he/him, is studying Mathematics at Oregon State University in Corvallis. He's incredibly excited to connect with the community in Oregon and learn more about the outdoors during his time in Central Oregon. When he's not working, Jason loves to play golf!

Say hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ to our two incredible interns out at Lava Lands Visitor Center and around the Newberry National Volcanic Monument all summer long!

This paid internship made possible through partnership with Visit Bend Oregon and Visit Central Oregon ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’š

Oregon Origins Project presents a bold and multifaceted exploration of Newberry Volcano in central Oregon, the largest volcano in the Cascade Range. The June 25-26 program includes an evening of Northern Paiute legends and stories (June 25), a new work for contemporary dance inspired by the caldera (June 26), an exhibition exploring geology and transformation, and a special guided tour of the volcano for ticket holders. Tickets are flexible pricing with a mininum ticket price of $10.

Thursday, June 25 at 7:30pm: ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฒ, a special gathering led by Wilson Wewa, the tribeโ€™s spiritual leader and an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. Wewaโ€™s presentation will range widely across the central Oregon landscape, including Wayahoo Panoona (Newberry Volcano), as he shares oral histories, legends, accounts of war, and recent events related to the Northern Paiute presence in the lands that have been their homeland since time immemorial. A Q&A will follow Wewaโ€™s presentation.

This substantial new work will take audiences into the molten heart of Newberry, layering and folding bodies in a sculptural exploration of churning magma, with a musical soundscape evocative of the glassy textures of the nearby Big Obsidian Flow.

Following the performance, University of Oregon geologist and Bend resident Daniele McKay will offer a multimedia guided tour of the calderaโ€™s past, present, and future, illuminating the remarkable variety of volcanic features at Newberry and how it has shaped and continues to shape central Oregon. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A with the creative team.
