With profound sorrow and deepest respect, we honor the life and legacy of Albert Henry Brown, the oldest known survivor of the Bataan Death March, who passed away at the remarkable age of 105. 🕊️🇺🇸
With his passing, the world loses not only a veteran, but a living witness to one of the most harrowing chapters of World War II, a man whose endurance, courage, and resilience embodied the strength of an entire generation.
In 1942, following the fall of Bataan in the Philippines, Albert Henry Brown was captured and forced into the infamous Bataan Death March, a brutal 65-mile journey marked by starvation, exhaustion, disease, and unimaginable cruelty. Along roads lined with suffering and loss, thousands of American and Filipino soldiers perished. Yet through conditions designed to break the human spirit, Albert endured.
His suffering did not end with the march.
For more than three years, he survived imprisonment in Japanese prison camps, enduring forced labor, malnutrition, and relentless hardship. Though his body was pushed to its limits, his spirit remained unbroken.
After the war, Albert returned home carrying scars both visible and unseen. He was once told he might never live to see the age of 50, yet through remarkable determination and strength, he lived more than a century, defying every expectation placed before him.
His life became a testament to perseverance.
A testament to survival.
And a testament to the enduring courage of those who sacrificed everything in defense of freedom.
Today, we mourn the loss of a true American hero and one of the last living links to a generation forged in sacrifice and hardship.
Though another voice from World War II has fallen silent, Albert Henry Brown’s legacy will endure in the freedoms he helped defend, in the history he carried forward, and in the example of resilience he leaves for generations to come.
May we never forget his sacrifice.
May we always honor his courage.
And may he rest in eternal peace, forever remembered and forever honored. 🕊️🇺🇸
