Emily Ross
new 21 bus route
Hi neighbors,
In a last ditch effort to influence Metro's decisions regarding the 21 bus route through our 'hood, I am writing a letter today. I will be circulating the letter for signatures in my immediate area (Ocean View Addition), but welcome others' signatures along the route. Not sure how to do this efficiently, but I will keep you updated on this post. I welcome helpful comments and tips. Thanks!

Emily Ross from Arbor Heights: I met with Ron last night. He printed out the letter on OVCBC letterhead. We decided I should send the PDF to Metro today, without any others' signatures. But, we also decided to gather signatures and present them to the route planner at the SWS forum on October 15th. I plan on leaving signature sheets at bus stops this week. I will also leave a signature sheet on my front porch for those of you who have the time to drop by and sign it before the 15th. 11420 37th Ave. SW (between Ocean View Dr. and 35th Ave.) If anyone is interested in reading the letter, let me know and I'll email the PDF. I don't see a way to post an attachment on this site, otherwise I'd do it that way. -Emily

Rich & Lisa Youngs from Arbor Heights: This is the response I received today from David Hull on the Metro Seattle Times Blog Chat, so maybe there is some hope for you all in the Southend of Arbor Heights: I hopeo ur neighbors in the Admiral District are also petitioning the bus changes, as they are also isolated as we are. Hi Lisa -- Arbor Heights doesn't have much ridership, but it's downright isolated now. Kevin Desmond, chief of Metro, mentioned to me that they might look ahead to having smaller vehicles or vans connect certain areas. It seemed like he had the suburbs in mind, but Arbor Heights strikes me as a good place for these kind of loops or shuttles.

Our West Seattle community members can simply bring their expired and or unused medication to the Southwest Precinct for safe disposal. Any type of prescription and or over the counter medications are acceptable collections. If liquid, please ensure that the lids are tight. Please note that intra-venous solutions, injectibles, syringes, or medical waste are not collectable items.

More info on Night Out!

Dear Community Friends –

We just wanted to send out a reminder about Night Out Against Crime 2012. National Night Out Against Crime will be this coming Tuesday, August 7th.

To date, we have over 1200 Night Out Events registered city-wide. If you want to host a Night Out event but have not yet registered, it is not too late. To register your 2012 Night Out Against Crime event, please go to: http://www.seattle.gov/police/nightout/default.htm

There are materials available for download on our Night Out page and more will be added in the upcoming days.

Also please remember that we have a presence on Facebook. We would like to see photos of your events and get your feedback.

We hope you participate in Night Out Against Crime this coming Tuesday. Hopefully, we’ll be able to stop by your event.

We also want to remind you about the upcoming Precinct Picnics. On Saturday, August 11th, from 1-4 pm, each of the Department’s five precincts will host Picnic at the Precinct events. We hope you and your family will join us at your Precinct, enjoy free food, ice cream and beverages, and meet the officers that patrol your community. Enjoy local bands and performers, participate in a raffle for items donated by local businesses, meet the four-legged officers from the K-9 and Mounted units, tour the precincts, and check out the gadgets used by special units like SWAT. We’ll also have activities for kids.

The Precinct Picnics are free to the community and sponsored by the Seattle Police Foundation.

Mark Solomon
