It's time for the Sound Sweep Series! 🌊

Part beach cleanup, part data collection, this cleanup series allows participants to record what they find in a global database to help inform environmental policymaking.

Our cleanups will take place on Saturday, September 12 from 10 AM - 2 PM at both Alki Beach and Myrtle Edwards Park in Seattle. Register at pugetsoundkeeper.org/events!

5 hours 7 minutes. 2 porpoises, 2 seals, and 1 jellyfish sting.

Mike crossed the Sound! And there's still time to help him reach his $10k goal for Puget Sound. Donate now and help Mike cross THIS finish line before the day is through.

This Friday, August 21, Seattle open-water swimmer Mike Hodel will swim from Ray's Boathouse across Puget Sound to Fay Bainbridge Park β€” touch Bainbridge Island, turn around, and swim back.

10 miles. One swim.

Mike crossed the English Channel in July and completed the 20 Bridges swim around Manhattan last week. Now it's time to bring the adventure home to Seattle to raise $10,000 for Puget Soundkeeper.

To track the swim online and to contribute to Mike's $10,000 goal in support of Puget Soundkeeper, please visit: https://mtyc.co/75qlig

August is Make-A-Will Month. This year, you can create a plan that will prioritize your loved ones and protect the waters you love by making a legal will online with our free tool available through FreeWill. By including a gift to Puget Soundkeeper in your will, you will help protect the waters of Puget Sound for salmon, orca, and the surrounding communities for years to come.

Join our next Escaped Trash Assessment Protocol (ETAP) Cleanup!

ETAP is part cleanup / part community science project. The first hour will consist of a cleanup near the creek. In the remaining hours, we'll sort, categorize, count, weigh, and photograph the debris we find. The data collected at ETAP is then used to improve water quality standards and support anti-trash legislation.

Tuesday, August 4
2 PM - 5 PM
Mill Creek Canyon Earthworks Park, 100 Reiten Rd, Kent, WA 98030

🌟 Now recruiting beach captains! 🌟

Through collective action, community engagement, and data-driven advocacy, the Sound Sweep Series aims to reconnect residents with their local waterways, while creating healthier aquatic ecosystems throughout the Puget Sound region.

This Sound Sweep season includes cleanup events 9/1 - 11/30.

After the Series, Puget Soundkeeper will produce an annual report consolidating data from the cleanups across Puget Sound where International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) data was collected.

Last weekend, volunteers joined Puget Soundkeeper and the River Access Paddle Program in the Upper Duwamish to remove debris from the river and its shoreline πŸ›Ά

This cleanup included the removal of an astounding 575 lbs of tires. Tires are a source of 6PPD-Q, which is highly toxic to aquatic life and there is emerging evidence to suggest it may also be harmful to human health πŸ›ž

We are so grateful to the people who spent their Sunday taking care of their community with us. 🩡
