It's time for Duwamish Alive!

Duwamish Alive! is an annual community cleanup event at Herring House Park/He’apus Village Park in West Seattle.

On Saturday, October 17, we’re partnering with River Access Paddle Program to offer two kayak cleanup shifts, each with 20 spots available. Sign up for a kayak spot to paddle on the Duwamish River, participate in the cleanup, and learn about the river’s history, marine habitat, and ecological and cultural importance.

Two kayak shifts will be offered with 20 spots each:

Shift #1: 10 am – 12 pm
Shift #2: 12 -2 pm

We're wrapping up another wonderful Expedia Group Month of Caring. 🤝

Together, we came together in our shared love of Puget Sound to remove hundreds of pounds of debris from our waters and shores. 🌊

🐟 When wastewater treatment plants discharge into Puget Sound, they also release excess nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. Puget Soundkeeper has been working to make sure that wastewater treatment plants put in proper safeguards to prevent pollution from excess nutrients that harm our waters, fish, and animals that rely on healthy fish populations in the Sound.

The Sound Sweep Series is here! Are you considering participating, but aren't sure? Check out this interview with one of our superstar 2025 beach captains, Aden in Edmonds!

🐳 What inspired you to join Puget Soundkeeper's mission?
I have always loved the ocean and wanted to give back to it. Even small cleanups, done over and over, can make a big difference. It might seem hard at first, but it’s easier than you think and it really helps the ocean.

🐙 What did you learn from leading your first Sound Sweep Series event?
I learned that even places that look really clean can still have a lot of hidden trash and waste. When people do cleanups, they help remove harmful garbage that can hurt plants and animals. Cleanups help protect local ecosystems and keep nature healthy. Even small efforts can make a big difference in keeping our environment clean and safe. I also learned that recruiting volunteers is not easy. For future cleanups, I plan to work more actively with Key Club students from nearby schools to get more help and make a bigger impact.

🦭 How do you think other kids can get involved and make a difference in their community?
I think it is really easy to get involved. Ask your parents to find a nearby cleanup and participate!
