PRAG House

PRAG House Landlord-free since 1974. They put the property into Trust in 1976 to maintain it as a cooperative house in perpetuity.

Prag House, located on Capitol Hill in Seattle, was originally purchased in 1972 by a collective of University of Washington graduate students and professors of sociology. The purposes of Prag House are to encourage communal living as a viable alternative to private ownership of property and to encourage the growth of cooperating communities and non-polluting technologies. We are a multigeneration

al community of individuals ranging in age from 5-65. Our interests and occupations include cooking, gardening, sailing, camping, pottery, and art. We enjoy sharing meals, watching movies together and maintaining the wonderful home we live in. Currently we are working on some long term planning and projects, the most visible of which is our yard. We have a blog to share our effort to steward our property in ways that reflect the values of our Trust Agreement and Use Agreement with the Evergreen Land Trust while also reflecting our personal tastes and values. We recently installed solar panels and a rainwater reclamation system.

PRAG House is seeking a housemate who is excited to engage in long-term and intentional community building in a large, shared house. You’ll enjoy a private bedroom, communal living spaces, on-site laundry, and proximity to many restaurants/grocery stores on Capitol Hill.

The house itself is a large residence near Volunteer Park, built in the early 1900s.

BIPOC, women, LGBTQ people, and non-binary people are strongly encouraged to apply.

About us: We are a 12-person house from a diverse range of cultures, communities, ages, and experiences. Diversity and equity are among our shared values. For more information, please visit our Foundation for Intentional Community listing (https://www.ic.org/directory/prag-house/).

We are members of the Evergreen Land Trust, and we communally own and maintain this space without a landlord. We have meetings once a month and steward the property with sustainable practices.

Together, we:
-Work together to make our house a home.
-Maintain the physical, business, and social sides of the house, including grocery trips at the Central Co-op, yard work, accounting, and maintenance.
-Share occasional house dinners.
-Make tacos, pizza, pierogies, dumplings.
-Grow and enjoy fresh herbs from our yard.
-Plan occasional bike trips and retreats.
-Read, play games, and puzzle by the fireplace.
-Occasional movie nights.
-Dream of ways to make the house more welcoming.
-Learn from one another.

Logistics:
-Dues are $680 per month and $240 per month for shared food/household supplies plus 5% of net monthly earnings excluding medical, food, childcare, and retirement expenses.

-Room is available now, but there is a progressive application process that invited applicants would complete, including a phone screening and an interview with all members.

-We do require that all residents contribute at least four hours a month towards our mission of stewardship.

Features:

-Street parking. The house is walking distance to many bus lines, including the 2, 8, and 10, and is a mile from the Capitol Hill rail station.

We cannot accept pets at the moment as we have a roommate that is allergic.

A Psychedelic Indie Pop concert in our living room?

Yep, that happened.

Everyone wore masks and brought proof of vaccination so we could just have a good time and enjoy the music.
