Teen Feed is a meal and support coordination program meeting the basic needs of homeless and street youth ages 13-25. Teen Feed provides meals and supportive connections to youth every day of the year, and averages 50-80 guests each evening. During the Teen Feed meal youth access basic needs items, support coordination staff and advocate volunteers, providing relationships and consistency they need to transform their lives. In 2014 Teen Feed
- served over 21,700 meals to over 900 individual youth
- worked with 750+ volunteers who provided over $100,000 in food donations
- provided 315 youth with support services
- provided 100+ youth with healthcare access services
- served youth in Seattle's University District, Auburn, and Rainier Beach

‼️ Teen Feed’s youth NEED these warm winter life supplies to get through the chilly autumn and winter months 🍂❄️ – temps are already dipping for our youth on the streets 🥶 We want your gently used items! Top Items Needed: warm jackets, raincoats (it’s Seattle ☔), blankets, hand warmers♨️, tents🏕️, sleeping bags, and tarps. New or gently used items are deeply appreciated.

That’s right – it’s back to school! 🍎 Students: join the Teen Feed community! 👩🏽‍🍳 This week marks back to school for University of Washington, and many other schools in the Seattle area. Teen Feed is in U-District, right across the street from UW – we’re all in the same neighborhood 💜 We serve all youth and young adults 13-25, including students! Students: Come by for a hot, nutritious meal – we’re open every single night of the year 7-8PM 🍽️ Volunteering at Teen Feed is a great way to earn community service hours, complete service learning, or an internship ✍🏽 Service events can also be an awesome team-building activity for groups of students! When it rains it pours….both literally and figuratively 😭 🌧️ This week the trusty Teen Feed vehicle (the Subaru we call “The Van”) had its back windshield completely shattered overnight, as well as the driver’s side mirror. We use this vehicle daily for food pickups, Outreach, and food transport, among other important things 🚗 We aren’t sure how much our insurance will cover, so we’re asking for monetary contributions to support the car repairs. Last week, a few Teen Feed youth and our very own Kitchen Manager Morgan built a Little Free Library outside of UDYC! 🔨 More youth at our In-Reach art program will be decorating the panels on the sides of the Little Free Library, to add even more color 🎨🖌️

Now that UDYC has a Little Free Library – we’re looking for book donations! Have a book sitting on your shelf you think a young adult would like to read? Drop it by to the Little Free Library at UDYC (University District Youth Center)! 📚

We are thrilled to welcome Calvin Rivers, M.Ed, MBA, SPHR to the Teen Feed Board of Directors! 🎉

Calvin is a remarkable public servant who has dedicated his career to helping others. He is currently a Senior Human Resource Analyst at the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks – Water and Land Resources Division. He previously worked as a Human Resource Specialist in the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Human Resources Department. As an Equity and Social Justice practitioner, he excels at strategically addressing challenges to produce beneficial results to eliminate barriers for underserved and historically marginalized communities. Calvin has already provided Teen Feed invaluable HR support and guidance.

Teen Feed is hiring for our next Dinner Program Manager! (part-time, 20 hours/week, $30/hour). We’re seeking a key member of our management team to ensure positive engagement, equality, consistency, and safety of our nightly meal youth guests as they seek respite from the streets.

Teen Feed’s Garden Club is in full swing at UDYC! Our youth have been really enjoying the chance to plant and grow edible plants, learning gardening skills along the way. Our Garden Club wouldn’t be possible without our lead Lorien, who is completing her Environmental Capstone internship with the UW Program on the Environment. Here’s to a fruitful rest of the summer! 🍅🥕🌿🌱

Melissa Larson has been leading the Liberty Mutual Meal Team (alongside her co-lead Kacie) since 2002. Over the last 24 years cooking every month, Melissa, Kacie, Liberty Mutual, their friends, and family have fed thousands of youth thousands of meals.
