Core Plus Maritime

Core Plus Maritime High schoolers learn career, life and technical skills while working on boats at school!

Personal responsibility, material science, applied math, technical reading and writing, tool, equipment and IT skills are building blocks for success in high-wage industrial careers. Core Plus helps teachers learn how to help students acquire these Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) through hands-on instruction based on input from employers engaged in manufacturing, construction, maritime and agricultural support services.

Throwback to 2016🤩 Core Plus students from Rainier Beach High School were summer interns at . Their favorite part? Welding with Ken Johnson, obviously!

Ten years later, 25+ high schoolers will compete in our first-ever Student Shipyard Welding Competition this Saturday in Ken’s classroom. A lot has happened in 10 years, but our TEACHERS FIRST motto stays the same. Couldn’t happen without collaboration between Ken and 7 high school welding instructors. We’re staying ready for that ship building boom!
