The energy at 2120 S. Jackson Street just reached a whole new level! A big congratulations to Anzhane Slaughter and the entire Young Black Homeowners (YBH) team on the official Grand Opening of their brand new Community Hub yesterday, June 5th!

As fellow tenants here at the McKinney Center, we could not be more thrilled to lock arms with them. While our Black Legacy Homeowners Network focuses on the retention side—sustaining and keeping our historic families rooted, YBH is striking deep at the barriers to entry, securing over $4.8 million in down payment assistance to get new families into homes.

Our collective efforts represent a complete, unstoppable intergenerational ecosystem for Black wealth in Seattle and across the Puget Sound. From the first set of keys to protecting the home for the next forty years, we’ve got our community covered from start to finish.

We had an incredible session locking arms with representatives from the City of Seattle, Matheus from Seattle Office of Housing and Saraubh from Seattle Office of Sustainability & Environment, diving deep into how our legacy homeowners can leverage affordable home improvement programs and clean heat initiatives.

This wasn't just a presentation—it was a dynamic workspace. Seeing neighbors get direct, one-on-one assistance to upgrade their properties and lower their utility costs is exactly why we are here.

Navigating the paperwork and deciphering your property value notice can be daunting. That’s why we are gathering at the Community HUB for a hands-on LEGACY CHAT.

Our own member and King County tax expert, Makeda Ebube, will be breaking down the process step-by-step. Bring your recent tax notices, bring your questions, and let's make sure our elders keep their hard-earned dollars in their pockets.

Having direct access to city leadership is crucial for our neighborhood. We didn't just talk policy—we had a real, transparent conversation about the issues actively impacting District 3 and Central District homeowners:

🔹 Zoning & Property Values: Discussing how upcoming city planning decisions affect our plots, our taxes, and our peace of mind.
🔹 Anti-Displacement: Making sure city leadership hears loud and clear that legacy homeowners need active protection, not administrative erasure.
