All of us at Sierra Club WA are feeling energized after hearing from Senator Jamie Pedersen, Senator Victoria Hunt, and Representative Joe Fitzgibbon, three legislators leading on climate, conservation, and environmental justice in Washington.

A few themes stood out:

💚 Protecting the natural world remains at the heart of this work. Behind every climate law and conservation effort is a simple goal: preserving the places, wildlife, and communities we love for future generations.

🌎 Washington continues to lead the way on climate action. Our legislators are focused on strengthening and improving the implementation of our landmark environmental laws.

🗳️ Grassroots organizing and voting in every election matters. We have some challenging races ahead this fall, and especially in local and down-ballot races, neighbor-to-neighbor conversations powered by volunteers and community groups can make all the difference.

Ultimately, the question isn’t whether our elected leaders in WA are showing up—they are. The question is: how will we show up to support them?

We’ve got some ideas, but it’s all hands on deck this fall! Keep an eye on this space for opportunities to get involved in the months ahead ✊

Thank you again to , , and Rep. Fitzgibbon for taking the time to join us last night. And of course, thank you also to our tireless volunteers, generous donors, and dedicated supporters who make our work possible.

The power of photography is undeniable. A single image can inspire people to protect what they love—and in 1976, photos of what is now the Alpine Lakes Wilderness helped do exactly that…

It was a meeting with then-governor Dan Evans, who shared a photo book published by the Mountaineers, that ultimately convinced President Ford to sign the previously imperiled Alpine Lakes Area Management Act into law.

Now, 50 years later, we’re preparing to celebrate this monumental conservation victory, and we want your photos to help tell the story.

Whether its towering spires, sparkling turquoise waters, a quiet moment alongside wildlife, or memories made with you and your trail buddies, we’d love to see the Alpine Lakes Wilderness through your lens. Your submissions may be featured in upcoming Sierra Club communications to commemorate the anniversary and every entry will be entered into a raffle for exciting prizes.

BREAKING: Last night, the Sound Transit Board voted to restore Graham Street Station to ST3!

The amendment championed by Mayor Wilson and King County Executive Zahilay brings Graham St Station back into ST3 with city and county investments—a major victory only made possible by years of organizing and relentless pressure from the Southend Transit Justice coalition.

This victory is about more than just a new station. It’s about building a city where people aren’t forced to rely on cars to access basic needs and opportunity. Car dependency pollutes our air, harms the ecosystems we rely on, deepens economic inequality, and isolates our communities. Graham Street Station will help close a major transit gap between Columbia City and Othello, creating a critical connection to jobs, schools, healthcare, and opportunity for thousands of South Seattle residents.

Big day for transit advocates and community power! ✊

Have you heard?! Sound Transit is considering cutting Graham Street and Boeing Access Road stations from the voter-approved ST3 plan.

That’s unacceptable.

Car dependency pollutes the air we breathe, harms the ecosystems we rely on, deepens economic inequality, and isolates our communities. Voters approved the full ST3 plan and are already paying for it through taxes and fees. Sound Transit must deliver the system we voted for.

The Graham Street Station in particular would fill a significant gap between Columbia City and Othello stations, providing an essential connection to jobs, schools, healthcare, and opportunity for thousands of residents. Hillman City and Brighton are communities that have long faced historic underinvestment and should not be forced to compete for investments they were already promised.

Join us outside Union Station this Thursday, 5/28, from 10am–noon to demand Sound Transit save Graham Street Station and fully deliver ST3.

RSVP at the link in our bio and see you there!

The State Building Code Council (SBCC) is considering a set of cutting edge codes that will help to continue the transition of Washington homes and buildings off of fracked gas. The SBCC needs to hear your voice in support of support climate friendly energy code updates. One of the updates would ensure that as old, conventional air conditioners wear out, they are replaced with modern heat pumps to increase efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and save money.
