We now offer a delivery option! Please Note: Delivery is intended for individuals who are in Severe Need, and have physical con

ditions, no access to transportation, or economic conditions that prevent them from leaving the house, or from paying for a grocery delivery service. PBFS serves low-income, underserved urban communities who live in food deserts and includes: African American, Latinx, & BlPOC children, families, elders, and domestic violence victims. We provide food boxes with organic produce, pantry essentials, and fresh baked goods, and culturally relevant, prepared meals. We do this work as a way to heal our communities, to inspire community, and to encourage healthy lifestyles for those that are underserved and have historically been unable to grow their own food or access healthy foods.

90 Families. 7 Days. One Powerful Gift.

Thanks to a generous $1000 donation sparked by our outreach, we will be able to offer an additional 90 families nourishing food boxes this week, each filled with fresh produce items. This is a beautiful start, but we know we need to make these bigger to support families' needs.

We have received support from extraordinary farmers that have stepped up to provide discounts—dipping into their livelihood to make sure these families receive food that matters.

We're working to make these boxes plush filled with enough produce, bread, and pantry essentials to support families for a full 7 days. To do this, we're raising $1100 more.

We're also seeking 50 hot prepared meals to offer warmth and dignity to families facing urgent need. If you are a chef or know of a restaurant with overflow that would like to support these families, please have them reach out today or email us at [email protected]

Can you help us cross the finish line?

Every dollar brings us closer to food justice, healing, and joy. We are also happy to connect you with the farmers if you prefer to purchase from them directly.

Donate today. Share this post. Be part of the nourishment.

As a note, we receive requests daily for boxes from schools, families, and organizations. This is in addition to our quickly filled sign-ups for our weekly box program.

For more than 8 years, I kept saying that diabetes and other metabolic diseases will ultimately stop veganism in its faddish track.

And I am so glad more and more studies are now surfacing to show that to be the case. It’s a no brainer, starch and sugars come almost exclusively from the plant kingdom and it’s even worse when we consume them in their concentrated highly processed forms. 🙏

~Milton. M.D.

“The 42 people on the animal-based meat diet (ABMD) received a selection of six frozen foods that were broadly categorised as beef mince, pork mince, chicken breast, burger patty, sausage and chicken nugget.”

“The 40 people on the plant-based meat diet (PBMD) were given Impossible Beef (Impossible Foods), OmniMeat Mince (OmniFoods), Chickened Out Chunks and Little Peckers (The Vegetarian Butcher) and Beyond Burger and Beyond Sausage Original Brat (Beyond Meat).”

“The results showed that “contrary to our research hypothesis, we failed to substantiate any clear benefits for PBMD on cardiometabolic health compared with the corresponding ABMD”, the team said. “

“However, one finding might be significant for the 9.5 per cent of the population here with diabetes. The study found that the group on ABMD had better glycaemic control.”

“He pointed out that the group on PBMD had higher waist circumference and body mass index (23.2, versus 21.9 in the group on ABMD), which are associated with insulin resistance. These factors could have affected their glucose regulation.”

“This study potentially shows that PBMA (plant-based meat analogue) diet may be associated with higher blood sugars. Therefore, caution has to be advised for individuals with diabetes who are trying to reduce their meat consumption.”
