At “O-Dark-Thirty” on October 6, the Cathay Post #186 Color Guard was honored to Present the Colors at the Fallen Soldier Cart send-off at Angle Lake.

We may be a bunch of “old veterans,” but it was a privilege to stand together and do our small part to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We are grateful to Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, Patriot Guard Riders, Alaska Airlines maintenance employees, military honor guards, volunteers, families, and all the partners who make this remarkable program possible.

A special salute to the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Field Honor Guard for their outstanding presentation of the Colors in Portland, and to the 142nd Wing, Oregon Air National Guard for the F-15EX participation.

✯ ✯ ✯ Supporting Our Nation’s Future Air & Space Force Leaders ✯ ✯ ✯

September 29, 2026 – Cathay Post #186 partnered with the AFA - Greater Seattle Chapter #244 to welcome the newest Air Force ROTC cadets at Detachment 910, University of Washington, and help kick off the new school year.

AFA and the Foo Dogs provided lunch and snacks and brought together active-duty officers from the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) Fixed Wing Puget Sound at Boeing Field.

It was a great opportunity to connect with the cadets and cadre, share experiences, and encourage tomorrow’s military leaders.

WWII B-17 pilot 103-year-old Captain Dick Nelms shared highlights from his 35 combat missions with the Eighth Air Force, 710th Bomb Squadron, flying from Rattlesden, England.

Representing Cathay Post 186 were Interim Commander James H.V. To, Adjutant Kent Wong, and Alyson Teeter.

Commander To summed it up: “Supporting these future Air & Space Force leaders is how we fulfill our mission of Veterans Strengthening America!”

Cathay Post #186 is proud to partner with the Greater Seattle AFA Chapter and active-duty DCMA officers to welcome the new school year and support the future leaders of our Air & Space Forces.

For 80 years, the Chinatown–International District has been home to the Foo Dogs of Cathay Post #186. It is more than a neighborhood to us—it is part of our history, our heritage, and our home.

What a wonderful Night Market yesterday! Seeing the streets filled with people, energy, and community spirit was truly something special. Thank you to everyone who came out to support and participate in the festivities.

Together, we help keep the CID vibrant, strong, and thriving.

Special congratulations to Chinatown-International District Business Improvement Area (CIDBIA) and all the sponsors for a tremendous job. It was a very proud moment to see our community come together.

✯ ✯ ✯ 80th Anniversary Celebration ✯ ✯ ✯

September 20, 2026 — What a wonderful afternoon celebrating 80 years of American Legion Cathay Post #186!

It had been 10 years since our last anniversary celebration — far too long. This gathering brought together current members, past members and their descendants, longtime supporters, and new friends at the Wing Luke Museum. Fittingly, the museum’s namesake, Wing Luke, was also a member of Cathay Post #186.

It was a reunion of old friends and a time to make new ones — sharing memories, stories, and the history of our Post. We heard from past commanders and family members and watched the documentary Legacy of Camaraderie, Community and Patriotism, introduced by producer Tuyen Than.

The celebration opened with a high-energy lion dance by Mak Fai Kung Fu Dragon & Lion Dance Association 麥顯輝龍獅團, setting the tone for a memorable afternoon.

We are grateful to Chrissy Shimizu, Executive Director of the Wing Luke Museum, for her warm welcome and tribute, and to our community partners and supporters: Wing Luke Museum, CID Vision Group, Mak Fai Kung Fu, Tai Tung, and Kau Kau Barbeque Market.

A special thanks to our 80th Anniversary Planning Committee and all our volunteers for making this celebration possible.

We are proud of the legacy of Cathay Post #186 and honored to follow in the footsteps of those who came before us — continuing their tradition of service as Veterans Strengthening America.

Here’s to 80 years of service, friendship, community, and patriotism — and to the years ahead.
