Seattle Spelling Bee hiatus

Hello spelling enthusiasts! It is with a heavy dictionary that I must inform you that the Seattle Spelling Bee will unfortunately be on hiatus for a while. There is just too much on my plate right now and I am not able to dedicate the time and effort that the Seattle Spelling Bee and all of its participants deserve. The Seattle Spelling Bee is undoubtedly one of the high points of each month and I wish I had more time in the month to make it happen but that's just not the case at the moment.

Keep on spelling!

What's worse than graffiti? Graffiti with a typo...but at least they corrected it. The Seattle Spelling Bee doesn't feature any graffiti but we do have corrections after each half of the written portion and you will get the correct spelling of any words missed during the verbal portion. I know it's not the same as spray paint that it'll have to do! Next bee is Monday the 8th at Jillian's starting at 7pm!

It's back to school time and unfortunately the that has meant a whole bunch of extra work for Professor Kyu so the September bee will be a month off for you spellers. We'll be back on track next month for the October 9th bee. Enjoy the tail end of summer and we'll see you next month! Until then check out Boston's creative spelling of the word "neighborhood."

By Monday, "watching the Olympics" will no longer be an excuse for skipping out on the Seattle Spelling Bee. Come and relax in the air conditioned Spelling Lounge while words are wafted your way. Plenty of food, drink, fun, and prizes to be had.

Meanwhile, you can rejoice in the fact that you (probably) don't have this olympic sized spelling error on your body for the rest of your life. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-18890901

8000 high school diplomas recalled due to misspelling the word "program." Not sure which is worse, the fact that school administrators didn't catch the error more quickly or that the vendor's name is National Quality Products.

The word list and results for the July bee are up on the Seattle Spelling Bee website. Next bee: Monday, August 13 starting at 7:00.

The importance of proofreading reached a new zenith when as many as 8000 diplomas issued in Maryland high schools were recalled last week, after it was found that a word was misspelt.

You don't need the Internet to make typos. Centuries ago when the US was just freshly hatched printers also made errors in an effort to get out an 18th century "tweet" equivalent as quickly as possible.

There's no rush at the Seattle Spelling Bee. Everyone will get all the time needed to correctly spell the words. Sound like your kind of fun? Then come on down to Jillian's tonight. We start at 7:00 and finish when we've crowned this month's spelling champion.

Dissemination of public documents was slow and labor-intensive in 1776. It’s too late to know for sure, but it’s interesting to speculate why a colonial printer — hurried, perhaps carried away by the excitement — would print copies of the Declaration of Independence and get the date wrong: June, wee...

Wouldn't exactly call this an Olympic sized error but someone associated with the London games got the spelling wrong on the tickets to a cycling time trial. You'd think that England would have a better grasp on its own language. Just because the spelling checker doesn't flag it doesn't mean that it's spelled correctly.

Meanwhile, over on this side of the lake continue the celebration of our independence from England by celebrating the English language at this month's bee! Life, liberty, and the pursuit of correct spelling starts at 7:00 in the swanky yet hospitable Spelling Lounge at Jillian's.

London 2012 organisers' last-minute decision to charge for a range of events previously declared free has come back to haunt them. It seems every stage of the maligned ticketing process has had glitches and this is the latest. Ticketholders to the road cycling time trial outside of Hampton Court Pal...

First things first, we are going to table the June edition of the Seattle Spelling Bee due to scheduling conflicts with the Spelling Lounge. Sorry about June but look forward to extra word awesomeness at the July 9th bee. Until then, enjoy the Seattle summer!

In other news, it was almost as if the Mitt Romney camp tried to feature a particularly bad spelling error right around the time of national spelling bee finals. Dog bless Amercia!

The results from the May bee are now up on the http://seattlespellingbee.com website. Please note that the Spelling Lounge will not be available next month due to a private event renting that space out. If you have a preference (moving to a different space at Jillian's, changing day of week, or changing which Monday we land on) then send email to [email protected] or comment here on Facebook. Thanks!

It's bad enough when schools make spelling mistakes but even worse when the misspelling is the school's own name...worse still is when it's not caught for nine years! If you want to know about your spelling mistakes a lot faster than that then come on down to Jillian's at 7:00 tonight for the May edition of the Seattle Spelling Bee for food, drink, and air-conditioned spelling fun!

Leave it to the NCAA to make a spelling mistake during the Final Four. You'll have to wait until next year to visit "Alanta" for the conclusion of the 2013 Big Dance but you can stop by the Seattle Spelling Bee this month for our very own brand of competition. Come on down to Jillian's on Monday at 7:00 to pit your spelling brain against other spellers. Fun, food, drinks, and prizes!
