For 35 years, Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) has fueled grassroots solutions led by the community, for the community, mobilizing $6 million in support of Greater Seattle-based grassroots, community-led organizations since its inception. Beginning this spring, newly expanded $10,000 grants mean even more support for local leaders who are building a more equitable region.

Early, flexible funding is essential for emerging grassroots organizations, giving community leaders the resources and stability needed to scale their reach and build long-term power. By increasing our quarterly grant sizes, we are ensuring trusted, community-led partners across South King County have the autonomy and resources they need to drive lasting change where it matters most.

Celebrating Juneteenth means honoring freedom as a living responsibility we carry forward.

History reveals deep inequities that limited Black homeownership and generational wealth. Acknowledging that truth is essential--building the path forward is where our hope lives.

Through partnerships with Evergreen Impact Housing Fund, Civic Commons, and the Black Home Initiative, we are working alongside community, philanthropic, and public-sector leaders to advance solutions rooted in equity and ownership.

Together we are:
▪️ Expanding access to capital for affordable housing
▪️ Supporting community-led development and BIPOC developers
▪️ Strengthening pathways to Black homeownership and generational wealth
▪️ Bringing cross-sector partners together to drive systems change

At Seattle Foundation, we believe housing justice is inseparable from racial justice. And progress, especially when it is centered on community, is worth celebrating.

From our first grants in 1946 to the emergence of donor-advised funds and today’s impact-focused philanthropy, one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to channeling generosity into lasting change across the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

80 years of resilience, community, and stepping up when it matters most.

We are incredibly proud to share a special joint op-ed by our current President & CEO, Alesha Washington, and former President & CEO, Phyllis Campbell, published today in The Seattle Times.

Reflecting on Seattle Foundation’s 80th anniversary, Alesha and Phyllis look back at our origins in 1946—a time of immense post-WWII uncertainty—and draw vital parallels to the challenges our region faces today.

At a time when nonprofit demand is rising and funding landscapes are shifting, their message is clear: we must see ourselves as one community. True resilience comes from activating our collective generosity through grassroots efforts and standing firm alongside the front-line leaders driving real change.

Celebrating PRIDE is not symbolic. It is a necessary act of kindness, advocacy, and accountability. At Seattle Foundation, we lean in, we support, and we invest because thriving communities are built when every person is seen, valued, and protected. 🌈

As we stand up together for equity and joy, here are a few incredible ways to show up, celebrate, and connect with the LGBTQIA+ community across the Greater Seattle area this month:

📍 Upcoming Seattle Pride Events
• PrideFest Capitol Hill: Saturday, June 27, 2026 (Noon–8:00 PM). One of the biggest neighborhood celebrations featuring live entertainment, food vendors, and beer gardens in Seattle’s historic LGBTQIA+ district Seattle PrideFest Capitol Hill.

• Seattle Pride Parade: Sunday, June 28, 2026 (Starting at 11:00 AM). The massive parade winds through downtown along 4th Avenue (from Union Street to Denny Way) featuring over 250 contingents, dancers, and drag royalty FOX13 Seattle.

• PrideFest Seattle Center: Sunday, June 28, 2026. The largest free Pride festival in the country closes out the weekend at the Seattle Center with multiple stages, vendors, and community celebrations Seattle PrideFest.

On June 4, our Director of Philanthropic Advising Jessica Ross spoke on a panel alongside nonprofit leaders at Purpose Under Pressure: Leading with Pride in Uncertain Times, hosted by Bernstein. The discussion offered a sobering look at the challenges facing LGBTQ+ nonprofits and their allies. Katie Carter, Executive Director of Pride Foundation, highlighted shifts in the funding landscape, noting that cumulative foundation support for LGBTQ+ organizations has declined from an already low $0.25 per $100 granted to just $0.16.

Panelists reflected on organizational resilience amid mounting challenges, including operating in a climate of fear and, in some cases, closing their doors entirely due to reductions or losses in even traditionally “safe” funding sources. Facing all of this, Jessica spoke about the importance of relationships in this work, expanding beyond your checkbook to activate for the causes you care about, and how Seattle Foundation fundholders have continued to show up and double down where needed in the changing philanthropic landscape.

Despite these difficult realities, joy remained a central theme. Judy Kinney, Executive Director of GenPride, shared a video from the organization’s recent Silver in the Rainbow event, featuring LGBTQ+ elders dancing to “I Will Survive” in celebration of their community. Thank you to Bernstein for hosting the event and inviting Seattle Foundation to participate, and to all of the outstanding panelists, including Jessica Ross, for their timely insights.

Yesterday, we hosted our most successful Professional Advisor Continuing Education webinar to date, with 107 registrants and 60 advisors joining us live "in the room" (with many more tuning in via the recording!).

A massive thank you to our guest speaker, Bryan Clontz, for delivering an incredibly insightful session. Whether simplifying the vocabulary, demystifying the tools and strategies, or asking the right questions, the webinar offered practical suggestions to help advisors ensure that philanthropy remains top of mind, relevant, and engaging for their clients. Through these actionable insights, Bryan reminded us why philanthropy remains a cornerstone of wealth, tax and estate planning advising, and highlighted how critical it is for advisors to partner directly with nonprofits to align a donor’s intention with true community needs.
