Washington’s tax landscape is evolving, and charitable planning conversations are evolving with it.

As giving strategies become more complex, three areas can impact how clients align their giving goals, tax planning, and long-term impact:

• Gift structure: Different assets and giving strategies may have different tax implications, especially when considering complex gifts.

• Qualified organization status: Understanding whether an organization qualifies under Washington rules helps clients make informed giving decisions.

• DAF considerations: The structure of a donor-advised fund and its sponsoring organization may impact eligibility for certain Washington tax benefits.

Seattle Foundation brings deep community knowledge and expertise in complex gifts and charitable strategies to support advisors and their clients’ philanthropic goals.

What’s one simple way to bring more value to client conversations?

Start with the right questions.

When capital gains come up, wealth managers can explore whether a client is thinking about appreciated assets, charitable intent, or a larger family legacy. These questions can surface planning opportunities that are both practical and meaningful.

At Seattle Foundation, we partner with professional advisors to support client conversations around charitable giving, complex gifts, and long-term philanthropic goals.

Moving from statement to action means investing directly in the hands of those keeping our communities safe.

In the aftermath of the Bite of Seattle shooting, we are providing $75,000 in rapid-response funding to seven grassroots organizations dedicated to expanding youth opportunity, advancing neighborhood-led safety strategies, and tackling the underlying conditions that lead to violence.

We are proud to direct these resources to:
• BUILD 206 (Brothers United in Leadership Development) – Fostering leadership and belonging for young people.
• Highly Hated Foundation – Engaging youth through mentorship, creative expression, and violence prevention.
• Horn of Africa Services – Providing multilingual and multicultural support for East African immigrants and refugees.
• Interagency Academy at King County Jail – Supporting incarcerated youth through education and leadership development.
• Look2Justice – Transforming the criminal legal system through community education and advocacy.
• Rainier Beach Action Coalition (RBAC) – Leading place-based strategies to reduce gun violence.
• The Mentor Group – Building trusted spaces and mentorship programs like the Youth Barbershop.
