Sonics Legends Fund The official page of the Sonics Legends Fund.

Our fund was created to assist former Sonics players in need of financial assistance, connecting them with caring support and critical resources like medical care and housing. Sonics’ legends currently receiving funding include Gus Williams, a star member of the Sonics 1979 NBA Championship team, and Slick Watts, the ever-popular guard whose trademark headband still resonates today among long-time SuperSonics fans. If you are a former Sonics player and would like to privately find out if you qualify for assistance, please visit our website.

Celebrating our impact! 🎉 Sonics Legends Fund has helped ensure former Sonics players have access to the care and support they need when it matters most.

To date, our impact includes 8 Sonics Legends receiving assistance, 2,523 caregiver hours, 200 medical treatments, and 48 months of housing or utility assistance.

These numbers represent more than services — they represent dignity, stability, and a commitment to taking care of the legends who helped build Seattle basketball history.

Our vision remains clear: a future where every Sonics Legend has their basic needs met. 🏀

We were excited to spend the day at Rise Above’s Seattle 3-on-3 Youth Basketball Tournament, connecting with young athletes, families, and community members along the waterfront! 🏀

The Sonics Legends Fund was proud to table at the event, share more about our mission, and be part of a weekend centered on basketball, youth, and community. It was a great opportunity to connect with supporters, celebrate the next generation of athletes, and show up alongside organizations doing meaningful work throughout the region.

Thank you to Rise Above for bringing the community together and creating such an energetic and welcoming space!

Congratulations to Sonics Legend Rick Brunson on helping coach the New York Knicks to the 2026 NBA Championship! 🏆

Rick played for the Seattle SuperSonics during the 2005–06 season and now serves as an assistant coach for the Knicks. This championship is even more meaningful because he experienced it alongside his son, team captain, and Finals MVP Jalen Brunson. Their remarkable father-son journey, built on discipline, accountability and unwavering support, culminated on basketball’s biggest stage.

The Sonics Legends Fund is proud to celebrate one of our own and an unforgettable moment in the Brunson family legacy.

For 41 seasons, the Seattle SuperSonics gave us unforgettable moments on the court. Some of us remember the 1979 championship parade, the electric GP-to-Shawn Kemp alley-oops, or watching a 19-year-old Kevin Durant light up Key Arena.️

Beyond the hardwood, our Sonics were true community heroes. From Read to Achieve programs and youth basketball camps to players showing up at local schools, the bond between Seattle and its team runs deep.

As we look forward to the team’s return with absolute positivity, we’re proud to keep highlighting the legends who gave their all for our city. 💚💛

Let’s celebrate all our Sonics birthdays for the month of June! 💚💛
