A Salute to Strength, Resilience, and New Beginnings 🏡✨
At Building 10, we recently had the honor of walking alongside a remarkable Veteran through his journey in the Transitional Housing Program. Though his story is uniquely his own, it echoes the quiet courage shared by many who come through our doors.
In his short time with us, he became more than a resident—he became a friend, a source of encouragement, and a steady presence for both staff and fellow Veterans. His kindness, connection, and quiet leadership left an imprint we won’t soon forget.
Today, we celebrate his graduation from the THP program and his move into permanent housing. With a promising job, reconnection with loved ones, and a renewed sense of purpose, he’s heading home—not just to a place, but to a future full of possibility.
"During my time in the Veteran Transitional Housing Program, I found myself at a crossroads—battling the weight of my past while striving to build something better for my future. Surrounded by others who had also seen the darkest corners of life, I began to rediscover my footing. The structure, support, and quiet strength of the program gave me a place to breathe, reflect, and plan. Slowly but surely, I climbed out of the hole I had fallen into, picking up discipline, clarity, and purpose along the way.
Just as the path forward was becoming clearer, I received news that shook my foundation—my mother had been diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. Her health was steadily declining, and though I had just begun to stabilize, I knew there was no question in my heart: I needed to be there for her. I made the decision to return to Las Vegas, NV to be closer to her, trading temporary progress for something far more important—time with the woman who had given me everything.
I was no longer afraid to reach out, to say I couldn’t do it alone. I found the courage to ask for help, and in doing so, found new opportunities and community. Slowly, my finances began to improve, and so did my sense of direction. The experience of the program had shown me what I was capable of, and being close to my mom gave me the reason to keep going. This chapter of my life became more than a trial—it became a turning point."
Kindly,
Diego
Help us cheer him on as he begins this new chapter!
