RIP “Cheez”. 😢💔🌈❤️

Greetings all. I wanted to share that I received this messagese from Josh last night:

“I wanted to let you know that Cheezy-girl passed away. I’m devasted. I just want to quit. I miss her so much. I really appreciate all the help you did for us it truly does mean the world to me.”

(Josh is the guy who stayed on what we called “William Way” with his pale yellow bus and his sweet “Cheezy-girl” pup back when “Eats” outings were happening)

For those of us who know and were blessed to interact with those two, we know how wrecked Josh’s heart must be right now. He LOVED that dog immensely. She was “life” to him.

I responded with a heartfelt message of encouragment. I also said Cheezy was greatly loved by all of us from “Eats” and we are so very sorry for his loss.

I don’t know any details of how she passed. I only know they have been staying over in Cashmere (WA) and he had been trying to get back here to Seattle.

🐾 Cheeze was an amazing dog! She was always one of the highlights to our “Eats” outings. She would come running to us jumping up on or into the cars to see what treats were in store and always had love to share with us. I’ve included some pictures below as a tribute to that wonderfully special pup. Please say a prayer for Josh. He could use some strength and love vibes sent to him. 🙏🏼❤️‍🩹😔 We will miss you Cheezy-Girl.

🌮Hey friends and followers! This week we’re doing one last fundraiser for one last “EATS” outing (for awhile).

Not hanging up indefinitely, but I am starting a job where I’m not the boss of me and don’t get to make my schedule. 😉 Not an exciting job, trust me on that; just a basic job to give me a consistent paycheck while I try and get my tax exempt non profit going.

So… For one last time (for awhile) if you would like to help us with one last really good meal for our S**o street peeps, here are the ways to pitch in:

Thank you ALL for always being willing to help however you’ve been able to! It means the world to me! 💎💜💎

🎥 Movie Review and suggestion for something good to watch:

I watched this poignant Indie film last night. It delves into the homeless lifestyle in the streets of London. Great storyline, though my content advisory is it has some choice language, a bit of violence/sexual violence (not super graphic), and drug use. However it also depicts loyalty, love, care, compassion, sadness, and some humor. You might laugh, you may cry (I did). It is well worth the watch. The acting is brilliant with some very stand out performances, and Marc Zammit did a fantastic job of directing as well as starring in this project.

I will say it wouldn’t ever win a “sound edit” award. 😆 It’s a movie where you need to do volume control. The music will drown some of the dialogue, and the British accents are tough to decipher in some scenes. But it’s still worth watching (with that remote handy)!

I watched it for free on TUBI. If you watch it, let me know how liked it.

Feeding the homeless folks out there in S**o can be heartwarming, interesting, and at times entertaining! I don’t know his name (he likes to remain “anonymous”🤷🏻‍♀️😉) but every time we run across this cool cat, he is always good for an impromptu song! 🎶💛🎶

We invite you to come along with us anytime we go out. For those who can and would like to contribute to help with next Sunday’s meal, here are the ways to do so…

⚖️ I hope everyone has recovered from Tax Day (IRS = 😈), and can instead focus on SPRING weather finally arriving in Seattle!🌼

We look forward to being able to feed some folks in better weather. We don’t mind going out in rain or snow, but it’s always easier when weather cooperates! It’s also better for being able to chat with people a bit more and get to know a little about them.

If you’d like to help, the ways to pitch in are by volunteering to come along with us or pitching in any amount (Did you know you can send $1 through Venmo?! If everyone we are friends with on social media sent only a dollar, we could feed so many people with those dollars! 😁😉)

If you want to help us provide meals, here are the links to do so:

As always thank you for helping us help others! 💜

How cool would it be if we could do for our peeps what this stylist in the video did for this man? 😭🥰 Maybe we can’t do this, but we do look past the grime and brokenness of them and see their pretty or handsome faces, the hope deep in their eyes, and mostly their potential! 🧖🏻‍♀️💇🏾‍♂️🧖🏽‍♂️💇🏼‍♀️
We can’t fix all of them, but we can at least feed them and share some love and laughter.

💟 I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Gary, Becky, Kari, and Gracie for giving their time and efforts on Easter Sunday. They could have done anything else that day, but they chose to help us reach out to those who don’t have “family”, offering love through a meal. We’re grateful for you!

We here at “Eats” have become a little family; maybe not blood related, but definitely a bonded family through what we do and all we experience out there. That includes ALL of you who support us with donations, prayers, and “liking and sharing” our posts. Family is everything! Thank you for being part of ours! 🙏🏼

We’re hoping to go out again this week to serve a meal. If not this week, then next. If you’d like to help… as usual, here are the ways to do so:

Thank you again for being a part of making a difference! 💖

A loooong Sunday meal recount with an “OpEd” of sorts:

Venturing out on any given Sunday holds surprises until we reach S**o! Easter Sunday was no exception. Steffen and I had Kari and Gracie in our car, while Lorin (Lo) rode with Gary and Becky - a small but formidable crew!

We stopped at the one street we always go to first which is where Andre stays. It was a sunny day so he came out of his tent and chatted with us for awhile. He told us about how his dog Roscoe was recently stolen, ending up at Animal Control. Luckily he got his cute pup back before being re-homed or worse. 🙏🏼 Also, he was truly grateful for the dog food we were able to give him from a recent Eats donator.

After Andre’s place, we headed to “Kid Row” aka Utah St. All we saw there were rows of vehicles. The Mariners had an opening weekend game prompting the city, in order to help Seattle to not look like a 💩-show, to do another sweep of all the encampments. Especially places where fans most likely would park for the games. The city moves the mess, but they don’t actually find a place for the mess to go (mess of course meaning homeless people). Needless to say, we didn’t end up giving many meals away in S**o.

We did manage to find Crystal over on the other side of the train tracks and Jacob was across the street from Crystal with Summer and a few others.

We decided to head back to Burien to find people to feed since we know they are there. When the City of Seattle does these sweeps, it causes the more migrant-minded of the homeless community to scatter to other nearby communities. Many will hop a bus and head to the closest city with a transit center. Burien is one of the closest places with one. Upon arrival, these people network to find out where they can stay. Burien, after creating that “no camping ordinance” last year has now relaxed the enforcement of that law. Camping on sidewalks is once again okay. It’s quite prevalent in the main small business district of 152nd St between 1st Ave and Ambaum Blvd, including out in front of City Hall.

When we got to Burien, Lo, Gary, and Becky pulled in to a parking lot which happened to be the plaza where our dear friend Hilda’s family restaurant (a favorite of ours) “La Costa” is. They hopped out of Gary’s car and started handing out meals when Hilda’s brother came across the parking lot to politely explain why he didn’t want groups like us to feed these people.

What we learned was that beyond the obvious thing of street people creating a “third world” look to a city, is that the big cities like Seattle with the huge budgets supposedly for homelessness, are causing a domino effect of deterioration for small neighboring cities by not creating long term solutions that actually will work. Nor are they taking any preventative measures or precautions to prevent future worsening crises.

We drove over to talk with Hilda about how it’s affecting their restaurant’s business. She explained that business has dropped significantly due to the tents on the sidewalk leading to the restaurant (and we can vouch for that by the empty parking lot on what should have been packed that day)! They get scolded by customers who think the restaurant should clear the tents, when in reality their hands are tied. Frankly, they are struggling to keep the doors to La Costa open. (Please consider going there for lunch or dinner in the near future to help them out a bit. Their food is delicious and they have a wonderful staff ready to serve you!)

Hilda shared that in the wee hours of the morning their restaurant cameras show the parking lot looking like the Michael Jackson “Thriller” video where the zombies are walking in the street just before the cool dance; “The drug (fentanyl) is really bad”, she said with concern. Last week a dead body was discovered in one of the tents which definitely doesn’t help business! Stories like that make the news and cause a negative affect for local businesses. Sadly there is teenage prostitution and big drug dealing going on. She says it’s really bad in Burien now. It’s like the worst of homelessness has chosen Burien to fester in.

This is no fault of hers or any of these small businesses who are just trying to keep their livelihood going. They are the ones really being hurt by these big city decisions. The lack of accountability for responsible leadership, and proper use of the multi-millions of dollars (going to anything but actual rehabilitation of these human beings) is abhorrent. Instead, these individuals have metaphorically fallen into a rabbit hole, assuming animalistic behaviors within our community streets.

We concluded that our concerns for the vanished budget allocations should prompt individuals (like me) to further research where the money is going. There is urgent need for responsible leadership where genuine rehabilitation efforts for these individuals can one day actually transpire.

I’ll be researching and investigating public records of these budgets to see where the money is really going.
Example:
Building apartments where people will have safe living spaces with unlimited free harm reduction paraphernalia is not what taxpayers should be paying for. At least not in my opinion, for what it’s worth…

Hey All!
🌷We are gearing up for Easter Sunday (03/31). A couple of years ago we did an amazing Easter outreach with some Easter baskets and treats and Golden eggs with a little blessing inside for the recipients (See pics). It was a fun way to brighten their day. We hope to do it again! If you’d like to pitch in, the Eats Crew will get out there on Easter and spread joy while you spend time with your loved ones, as you should be! 😉

Every little bit adds up! We are grateful for everything here! Thank YOU everyone!🥰

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”🙏🏼

💐Greetings! Our recent outing (last Sunday) was a moving reminder of the impact on lives our little outreach has, both for those we serve and perhaps more for ourselves.🌹

Our group, including newcomers Susie and Eric, ventured out prepared to show our street peeps compassion, and care with a mix-in of good natured humor! 😄

During our outing we all experienced a bit of frustration and a few of us shed some sorrowful tears at different times during the day at circumstances faced by the many groups of people we meet out there. Witnessing our fellow Americans, including veterans, bravely battling the elements just to survive tugs at the heartstrings. Yet, despite their struggles, their spirited resilience shines through with gratitude, humor, and hope. It's an experience that touches you deeply, as Susie and Eric can now attest to. Especially for first-timers, encountering homelessness up close as we get to do offers a profoundly personal perspective that changes you forever.

(Below, you'll find pictures taken by Lo; some with captions, capturing moments we shared with the lovely street peeps you all generously support us in feeding!)

Handing out a meal and whatever extra items we have on any given Sunday is the golden ticket that unlocks their world to us—the real, raw life of living on the streets. We offer love and respect, and they return it tenfold. 💛

Back at the house, Susie, Eric, Lo, Steffen and I dove into intense conversations about the homeless crisis. Let me stress how standing alongside these individuals, treating them like cherished old friends, transforms your heart and mindset. We're privileged to witness the overwhelming goodness in them, often overshadowed by negative media. Maybe it's because we approach them with love, care, and laughter, rather than seeking show ratings or massive likes and shares on social media (although, likes and shares do help small community projects like this). ✨💫✨

❤️ Join us in creating positive change! ❤️

If you'd like to contribute to covering meal costs, you can do so through the following person-to-person (P2P) platforms. Additionally, consider checking out our “Amazon Wish List” for items that are invaluable to our street friends. Your support in any form is deeply appreciated. Thank you for being a part of our Village of Hope for Others!
