Urgent Africa’s initial mission was to assist the eldest child in their individual families to further their education, giving the eldest the ability to support their siblings. This necessity was due to the AID's crisis in 2000, as the parents were rapidly dying in a village outside of Nairobi, Kenya. The students in turn supported their individual families. She is currently on a sabbatical in Kis
umu, Kenya. Janean Wjvold is Co-Executive Director of Urgent Africa and provides the World Music marketing, motivation, initiative and fundraisers required to make Urgent Africa successful. She works and books events, festivals and assists with writing grants and work-visa's with African musicians and dancers to perform at these cultural events. Additionally, she manages the transmission of funds between the donors to the orphanages and their management. Together, Janean & Atieno work combining their unique talents & experiences to make their vision of a better Africa & African-American life for immigrants, with genuine hope that their dreams become a better reality.
