Last night was wonderful! A huge appreciation for our panelists, ASL interrupters, and folks that attended on this impactful topic. Our youth battles many obstacles, and it takes discussions like these to better support and learn how to create a safe space for them. ❤️

📣 Pride Speaks will be back in November, stay tuned for more details on our next topic of discussion.

📣 Pride Speaks is TODAY at the Unexpected Productions Theater on from 7:00-8:30pm. 📣

GLSEN reports that while each unique subset within the LGBTQIA+ community has different experiences, 86% of LGBTQIA+ students were harassed or assaulted at school. 84% of trans students felt unsafe at school because of their gender. 2 in 5 LGBTQIA+ students of color experience BOTH anti-LGBTQ and racist harassment at school. ❤️

Panelists include Daynon Jackson, Youth Advocacy Program Coordinator at Gay City; Joe Bento, Co-Chair at GLSEN; and El Sánchez, Fundraising Manager at Pizza Klatch.

This Pride Speaks is hosted by Lisa Love, Health and Education Manager at Seattle Public Schools. Love will pose questions to panelists, as well as to the audience in a Q&A session.

El Sándchez (they/them) is a q***r / transgender / nonbinary / Chicanx / Xicanx / Indigenous community activist and comedian who returned to the Olympia area in 2018 after living and working as a stand up comedian in Seattle for over a decade. They joined Pizza Klatch as a facilitator/advocate that same year after being booked to perform stand-up at a Pizza Klatch fundraising event.

El grew up all over Washington state, from a small farming community in Lewis County to the Quinault Tribal Nation on the Olympic Peninsula, but they've always called Olympia home. They graduated from The Evergreen State College in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree focused in constitutional law, tribal law and social justice.

They have been a featured performer and speaker at q***r comedy shows, Pride events and LGBTQIA+ focused panels and discussions throughout the country. They are honored to utilize both their lived experience and their background in LGBTQIA+ community organizing/outreach to benefit q***r and trans youth, especially those in smaller communities like the ones they came from.
