A journey that impacted us all!
SAA’s 1st Summer Trip was simply incredible.

Our young adults and Chaperones tackled our trip with open minds and open hearts.

We witnessed, listened, and touched our nations past while making new friends and bonds that will last a lifetime.

These photos capture moments of our time together - as we ate amazing food, danced to the Treme Jazz Band, walked where global icons and national heroes lived their day-to-day lives.

Most importantly, we served the beautiful community of NOLA.

Throwback Thursday with SAA!

In February our amazing volunteers traveled to Montgomery and New Orleans, learning about civil rights history firsthand by engaging with historic sites.

Through this experience, our students foster the perspectives needed to become thoughtful advocates and future leaders.

We are so proud of the dedication of our students and are excited for the rest of the upcoming trips this year!

Each year while in Montgomery, we spend a morning at the Legacy Museum created by the Equal Justice Initiative. The museum shares the history of slavery, racial terror, and mass incarceration in America, all stories that are painful but necessary to confront. We’re grateful for the chance to learn from these truths and to carry them with us as we serve with empathy and awareness.

We are so grateful for our connection with the Treme Brass Band 💙 They always show us the heart and spirit of New Orleans through their traditional NOLA style music and we always look forward to hearing them and dancing together on each of our trips!

Sunday Spotlight with SAA!

While in NOLA we always visit StudioBE, an amazing art space created by Brandan “Bmike” Odums. Through his installations, Odums focuses on the story of resistance through art and the importance of mental health, highlighting the Black American experience in the current and past American culture. In a 36,000 square foot warehouse, StudioBE is an incredible space that showcases the encapsulation of New Orleans culture as well as work of young artists and activists. It is always inspiring to visit as a team.
