Last night, a 19-year-old woman was killed in student housing. Reports state that the victim was a trans woman. We at TCUW and in the rest of the UW community, as a collective and as individuals, are devastated that another one of our sisters was taken from us. Trans women, particularly trans women of color, are among the most vulnerable populations to violent crimes.
If this woman is deadnamed in the media, do not stand for it. If details of her transness are removed from the narrative, do not stand for it. If you are trans, please stay vigilant in these coming times, stay informed, and most importantly, stay safe. If you are not trans, do what you can to support and uplift trans people in your community. Every member of our community is invaluable and we cannot risk losing another.
