Sing along in Haida!

Song form (w/ direct translations):
Díi an uu dáng xayáa
(You. For, FM. My. Sun.)
you are my sunshine

Díi an SG̱ún xayáa
(You. For, Only. Sun.)
my only sunshine

Díi gudang dáng gin ‘láa
(Me. Feeling good. You. Things. Happy)
you make me happy

Yáan sḵ’ín ḵawáas dluu
(Clouds. Granite/Gray. When.)
when skies are gray

Gám an dáng únsad
(don’t. you. know…)
you’ll never know dear,

Tlíisdluu dáng díi ḵuyáad
(in the end. You. I. love.)
how much I love you

Gám xayáas uu díi-sda isd’ang
(Not/Don’t. Sun. My. Take away)
please don’t take my sunshine away

I love singing in my ancient Haida language.
