Pride is one month… a movement, partner, takes all twelve. ~Brokeback Mountaineers (iykyk, sending love to the hate 🫶)
This Pride Month will look a little different for us this year. We’ve experienced the impacts of the rainbow retreat firsthand. Brand partnerships have come and gone. Partners who worked with us for years took their silent exit as political climates changed, leaving us without crucial funding. Sponsorships dried up like a desert lakebed. To the partners who have stayed and continued to show up for our community, we see you and we are grateful.
Q***r Mountaineers, like many q***r communities before us, will absolutely persevere. We have not wavered in our work… in fact our work has nearly doubled. Because our community is nothing if not absolutely incredible. We built it this way, together.
This movement was never built on brand dollars. It was built by volunteers. From the ground up. People who showed up because they believed q***r and trans people deserve safety and to find home outside together. Together, we built something that can outlast any one partnership. Built to make waves.
This is your reminder that the real work isn’t a rainbow flag flown once a year or a colorful t-shirt from your favorite brand. It isn’t a sponsored post or a newsletter mention. It’s showing up in February, March, April, and beyond when nobody is watching. It’s building a community that doesn’t need a calendar to know it belongs.
Our community shows up on the trail, at the crag, at brunch, in the rain, in the snow. All. Twelve. Months.
THAT is what a movement looks like.
THAT is the incredible strength of the q***r and trans community.
