Smarter breeding means stronger harvests

New AI tools are helping researchers identify wheat varieties with higher yield potential faster, accelerating the science that can help feed more people in a changing climate.

At Grow Further, we support research in Ethiopia that is already helping farmers grow wheat during the off-season, increasing harvests by up to 3x and creating new opportunities for families and communities.

That’s the power of agricultural research: turning innovation into more food on the table.

3X MORE WHEAT! AKA Wheat beating the odds!

Our Ethiopia Off-Season Wheat project is helping farmers grow wheat during the dry season with yields reaching up to 3x more in some fields.

That means more food, stronger livelihoods, and practical solutions shaped by the people closest to the challenge.

Thank you to our team of researchers Madda Walabu University for showing that irrigated, off-season wheat and potato production can help farmers harvest more food, use water efficiently, and strengthen climate resilience.

The crops that could help feed the future are often the ones receiving the least attention.

New investments from Crop Trust are helping expand opportunity crops like finger millet, bambara groundnut, and others that are nutritious, climate-resilient, and well suited to challenging growing conditions.

At Grow Further, we’re proud to support research that helps these crops reach their potential, strengthening harvests, nutrition, and resilience for farming communities.

Change in agriculture doesn’t happen overnight It grows field by field🌱, farmer by farmer 👩‍🌾🌾

This powerful story from 🇿🇲Zambia shows how farmer-led learning and climate-smart farming practices can spread through communities helping families grow more food improve soil health and build resilience against climate change

At Grow Further, this is exactly why we support practical, science-backed farming innovations 🔬shaped by farmers themselves. When farmers have access to tools and knowledge that work locally entire communities benefit

Watch this Smart farm story from Kenya on the disease-resistant potato variety scientists have developed to boost yields.

Kenya’s potato farmers have long battled low yields, pests, and rising production costs. But a new frontier in agricultural research could soon change that.

Scientists are now developing Shangi Kinga, a blight-resistant potato aimed at addressing one of the crop’s biggest threats.

Can you guess how AI could make rice healthier in India?

It’s not what you might think.

In this clip, Dr. Peter Kelly talks about a project we’re excited about right now using AI to develop rice that’s better for both people and farmers in India.

Take a look. There’s more to it than meets the grain.

Real change starts at the farm level.

Farmers like Catherine are using new tools to spot crop diseases early, take action faster, and reduce unnecessary pesticide use, protecting both their harvests and their livelihoods.

This is the kind of practical, farmer-led innovation we support at Grow Further: solutions that reduce crop loss, strengthen incomes, and help keep food on the table for entire communities.
