Vast areas of Fort Ord open space under the jurisdiction of Monterey County and the City of Seaside are scheduled for extensive development beginning in 2-3 years. These developments will remove at least 50,000 Coast Live Oaks, displace or kill all wildlife and destroy an area that has been used for recreation by tens of thousands annually since the mid-1990′s. These lands will be lost forever. Go

to a meeting and speak. Write a letter. Get involved! Monterey Downs is a proposed 550 acre, 1000 home, 500 apartment development in the Parker Flats area of the former Fort Ord. This enormous development is set to take place in one of the few remaining California Oak woodlands on the Central Coast. Monterey Downs promises to be an exclusionary mega-development that will be detrimental for all Fort Ord user groups, the surrounding community and the surrounding sensitive habitat areas. Monterey Downs plans also call for a 6,500 seat covered arena, a 1-mile horse race track, 1,000 horse stalls, two 200 room hotels, and a major retail shopping area. Monterey Downs principals have also recently admitted they plan to feature gambling at the facility which will be about 1/2 mile from Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB)

Alert: Despite OVERWHELMING public opposition, FORA is offically bringing back the Eastside Parkway and its worse then ever. The road is now proposed to be an astounding 4.5 miles long and cut through oak woodland along its ENTIRE length. FORA has cleverly tried to rename the project “Northeast-Southwest Arterial Connector Project” but it’s a new version of the Eastside Parkway. While the “old” version of Eastside Parkway connected to and utilized Intergarrison Road on its Eastern Edge, this new version exclusively cuts through the backcountry, including habitat area and oak conservation areas. The beginning of the environmental review process is underway. Please attend one of the two public meetings referenced in the link:http://www.fora.org/Reports/NOP/NOP_NE-SW_Arterial_Connector_Project_8-23-18.pdf

Agenda item #10 on the Seaside City Council’s Dec. 1 Agenda asks the Council to consider rescission of the general plan amendments, specific plan, and zoning ordinance for Monterey Downs because:
The Project Applicant, Monterey Downs, LLC, informed the City on November 22, 2016, that they do not wish to proceed with the project as currently approved, and declined at this time to enter into an indemnification agreement as required by the approvals for the General Plan Amendment, Specific Plan, and Zone Text and Map Amendments. Therefore, the City Council will consider rescission of the approvals, direction to staff to effectuate that rescission, and remand the Project to the Planning Commission for consideration of further Project Revisions that Project Applicant may wish to propose.

ACTION ALERT:
Del Rey Oaks is trying to ram through an RV/Trailer park on Fort Ord Land without an Environmental Impact Report or an Election.

Show-up to the City Council meeting 5/24 @ 6pm and demand Del Rey Oaks and the developer prepare a proper Environmental Impact Report.

Where will the water come from? Who will pay for the water and other infrastructure? The 220 spaces in the RV park, when full, would almost double the population of Del Rey Oaks. Del Rey Oaks citizens recently rejected an RV park proposal in another part of town.
