Arkansas Garden Tip After Heavy Rains 🌧️

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make after a rainy stretch is rushing outside to fertilize, spray, till, or mow too soon.

When soils stay saturated:
β€’ plant roots need oxygen
β€’ turfgrass becomes stressed
β€’ diseases can spread more easily
β€’ and muddy soils compact very quickly under foot traffic or equipment

After several rainy days:
🌱 Give lawns and gardens time to dry out
🌱 Delay mowing if the yard is still soft or leaving ruts
🌱 Avoid overwatering β€œjust because it’s summer”
🌱 Scout plants carefully before assuming every yellow leaf needs fertilizer
🌱 Watch tomatoes and roses closely for fungal diseases after extended leaf wetness

Sometimes the best thing we can do for plants is simply be patient and let conditions improve naturally.

Arkansas weather keeps gardeners humble! 😊

🌺 FREE CANNA DIVISIONS! 🌺

One of our White County Master Gardeners recently divided a large patch of red cannas and generously donated the extras for others to enjoy!

They are currently sitting by the front door of the White County Extension Office and are FREE for anyone who would like to stop by and pick some up. Please help yourself while supplies last!

Cannas are great for adding bold color and tropical-looking foliage to the landscape during the summer months. They love sunshine and heat! β˜€οΈ

A big thank you to our Master Gardeners for always sharing plants, knowledge, and generosity with our community!

Our White County Master Gardeners were up bright and early this morning volunteering at the White County 4-H O-Rama!

A big thank you to Freda, Vicky, Stephanie, Barbara, Nayeli, and Marli for giving their time and talents to help make today’s event a success. These volunteers assisted with Entomology, Forestry, Horticulture, Poultry, and scoring as 4-H members from across the county competed and learned.

We are so thankful for Master Gardeners who continue to invest in our youth and support educational opportunities in White County. Their willingness to serve behind the scenes helps these events run smoothly and creates a positive experience for our 4-H’ers.

Thank you ladies for representing the White County Master Gardener program so well this morning! πŸŒ±πŸ€πŸžπŸ”πŸŒ³
