There is so much more to hearing differences than what shows up on an audiogram. 👂💙📚

The 5th Annual ArkSHA Summer Schools Conference is excited to feature Beyond the Audiogram: Understanding the Hidden Impact of Hearing Differences in the Classroom, presented by Madison Howe.

This meaningful and eye-opening session will explore the often unseen social and emotional experiences of students with hearing differences in school settings. From missed communication cues and conversation fatigue to bullying risks, social isolation, and increased listening effort, students are navigating challenges that can deeply impact participation, confidence, and connection with peers.

Participants will also explore the experiences of families as they navigate evolving cycles of stress, guilt, grief, and decision-making throughout their child’s school years — and how those experiences shape collaboration with school teams.

This session will provide practical, developmentally appropriate strategies to help clinicians and educators:
✨ Support social communication and emotional development
✨ Foster self-advocacy and independence
✨ Integrate meaningful goals into the IEP process
✨ Better support long-term participation and success for students with hearing differences

Because supporting students means seeing beyond the data and understanding the whole child. 💙

What if early signs of dyslexia could be identified through something as simple — and powerful — as letter formation? ✏️📱

The 5th Annual ArkSHA Summer Schools Conference is excited to feature Early Identification of Dyslexia Characteristics Through Letter Formation: Developing a Technology-Enhanced Screening Tool for Young Learners presented by Arianne Pait.

This innovative session explores how technology, handwriting analysis, and machine learning may help transform early dyslexia screening for kindergarten and first-grade students. Using Apple Pencil technology and high-resolution stroke data, this developing iPadOS application examines handwriting and grapheme production patterns before formal reading instruction begins — opening the door for earlier identification and intervention opportunities.

Participants will explore:
✨ Limitations of current dyslexia screening practices
✨ Why early identification is critical for student outcomes
✨ How biometrics and handwriting analysis may identify dyslexia risk factors
✨ The growing role of educational technology in supporting young learners

This session is where education, innovation, and student advocacy meet — and we cannot wait to learn more about this exciting work! 📚🧠💡

Feeding, swallowing, teamwork, paperwork, parent communication… school-based SLPs know that Pediatric Feeding Disorder services in the schools can involve a lot of moving pieces. 🍎🥄📚

That’s why the 5th Annual ArkSHA Summer Schools Conference is excited to feature When Feeding Meets Education: A Panel Discussion on Pediatric Feeding Disorder in School Systems presented by Darla Groe, Michelle Donnell, Betsy Staley, and Shelley Chumley!

This practical and engaging panel discussion will tackle the real-world questions school-based clinicians face when supporting students with feeding and swallowing needs on campus. From referrals and team roles to safety concerns, documentation, service delivery, and parent communication — this session is packed with honest conversation, collaborative problem-solving, and district-level insight from clinicians doing the work every day.

Expect practical takeaways, shared experiences, lessons learned, and maybe even a few “we’ve all been there” moments along the way. 👏

The ArkSHA Summer Schools Conference is excited to welcome international presenter Phuong Lien Palafox back to Arkansas!

This time, Phuong will be presenting Stories Fuel Our World: Evidence-Based Considerations for Literacy-Based Practices. Her energetic, relevant, and inspiring session will focus on practical, evidence-based strategies that help school-based SLPs maximize their time, effort, and impact in today’s demanding educational environments.

As workloads increase and opportunities for collaboration become more limited, literacy-based practices offer meaningful ways to support communication outcomes while honoring the realities of school-based service delivery. Stories are more than books we read with students — they are the foundation of language, identity, and literacy development.

Participants will explore:
-The power of narrative-based content
-Narrative assessment and intervention strategies
-Considerations for supporting low-incidence populations
-Service-delivery models that improve student communication outcomes

Through a lens of evidence-based research and human-centered practices, Phuong will provide practical tools and inspiring insights designed specifically for school-based clinicians.

Here’s to the power of stories 📚✨
